Thank you Sam Scott Contracts for your exceptional work on Historic, RNLI Lifeboat “Joseph Soar”. This Vessel is the last Watson Class Lifeboat ever built and is the only one left in Service Condition. The Vessel is of National importance and is so rare that only four people are allowed to work on it. Sam Scott is one of these four people.
The specific task in this instance, was to remove approximately 27 layers of paint and primers from the Vessel’s underwater hull and keel, back to bare wood and cast iron. It was imperative that this work not damage her mahogany planks or caulking in any way.
The objective was to enable a full and detailed condition survey of planks, caulking and keel.
Grit blasting had to be methodical to comply with our directive and the resulting work by Sam Scott exceeded expectations. It also saved the approximate 2 months work for three people (1200+ work hours) and achieved a much better result.
The work was not straightforward, as the vessel’s hull is of a very intricate design, including propeller tunnels and 22 differing sheer lines.
Our project programme photographs speak for themselves.
