Moving to Paris is exciting. But there’s a point between “We’re moving to France!” and actually living here when you suddenly realize just how many things need to happen. 🇫🇷
Apartment. School. Bank account. Carte Vitale. Titre de séjour. Phone. Utilities. French classes. And somehow, they all seem to depend on something else being done first.
After helping people build their lives in Paris for more than 15 years, we’ve learned that the secret isn’t doing everything at once. It’s knowing what to tackle first.
🏠 Start with home.
A permanent address gives you a base and makes many of the practical steps that follow much easier. Finding an apartment in Paris has its own rules, so preparing your rental dossier early can make a real difference.
🎒 Give the kids their routine.
Whether that means a French public school, international school, crèche, or childcare, getting this piece in place helps the whole family begin settling into everyday life.
📄 Then comes the French paperwork.
Residence permits, Carte Vitale, driver’s license exchanges, and all the other administrative milestones don’t necessarily happen overnight. Know what applies to you, what documents you’ll need, and when you can apply.
🏦 Get your French banking in place.
A French bank account becomes surprisingly useful, surprisingly quickly, from rent and utilities to phone plans and everyday payments.
🇫🇷 And don’t leave French for “later.”
Three classes a week for a year can change much more than your vocabulary. It’s chatting with the boulanger, understanding what’s happening at your child’s school, making appointments without rehearsing every sentence first, and eventually feeling less like a visitor in your own neighborhood.
You don’t build a life in Paris in a week. You build it one piece at a time, and eventually, it all starts to fall into place.
