Cleaning tip of the week

Do you have a wooden cutting board in your kitchen which you use for preparing onions and garlic? Do they retain the smell?

Sprinkle salt all over the board. Cut a lemon in half and rub over the salt. Rinse to remove the paste and your board should no longer smell.

I thought you might like a little update after the French Prime Minister has updated the country on the deconfinement process. The key messages are as follows:-

* The current R value in France is currently 0.77.
* No gatherings of more than 10 people in one location.
* Schools will be reopening faster than they envisaged.
* From Tuesday 2 June the following is allowed (Monday is a public holiday in France):-
- it is possible to travel more than 100km from your home address
- bars, restaurants and cafes can reopen as long as social distancing is maintained
- swimming pools, gyms and theatres can reopen as long as special instructions are followed
- monuments, museums, parks and lakes can reopen
* from 22 June cinemas can reopen
* from 26 June Orly airport will reopen

Borders are still closed. They hope to restart opening the internal European borders first and will review it on 15 June. External borders will remain for as long as necessary and will depend on the R rate in other countries. If a country quarantines French citizens, then France will adopt reciprocal requirements.

If you are a gite owner, you may have heard from your Tourist lnformation office or your Mairie, on the requirements for reopening. The government has also released requirements for hotels/holiday accommodation providers to follow with regards to hosting guests, and especially cleaning and changeover requirements. Please contact me if you need any help or guidance.

Keep Safe.

I've been worrying about putting down commercial w**dkiller due to the cats, and Charlie our dog. At last I have found a very effective and cheap alternative.

This wildlife friendly w**d killer contains just three common household ingredients that you’ll probably have to hand – white vinegar, salt and washing up liquid. The vinegar and salt help to dry out the w**ds, and the washing up liquid ensures the salty vinegar solution sticks to the leaves of the w**d.

I think it's great; but see the results for yourself!

HOMEMADE WEEDKILLER RECIPE

YOU WILL NEED:

1 litre white vinegar

3 large spoons of salt

3 large spoons of washing up liquid

METHOD:

Add your salt to your vinegar and shake until dissolved.

Once the salt is dissolved add your washing up liquid, and stir well.

TO USE:

The w**d killer works indiscriminately on all plant life, and can turn your soil acidic. For this reason it’s best used to kill w**ds that have appeared in the gaps between paving slabs or gravel, rather than to tackle the w**ds in your lawn or flower bed.

For small w**ds and younger dandelions spray the solution directly on to the leaves.

For larger, more well established w**ds spray the leaves and also pour a good glug on to the plant. It’s very effective – you should notice the w**ds beginning to wilt within an hour.
