How do we build a home that honors the landscape over the architecture?
A finalist in the Personal Places category, El Divisadero in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos (Mexico) by MO+G Taller de Arquitectura, frames three rectangular volumes around existing native trees to create a serene sanctuary aligned with the vast horizon of Cerro Viejo.
Centered around three magnificent trees—two Jacarandas and a Tepehuaje—that serve as the natural anchor points, the project distributes its private, social, and stable programs across distinct rotated volumes, carefully balancing solitude with sweeping western views.
Rather than imposing a heavy structure onto the hillside, the design embraces the site's raw topography and natural stone with quiet sensitivity. Heavy local stonewalls and a delicate forest of steel columns support expansive flat roofs, capturing shade while allowing the regional breeze to flow continuously through open air.
The accompanying video by Alejandro A. Del Castillo and sound design by Sebastián Santana capture how the weightless roofs and organic stonework foster intimacy, shade, and a deep, humble connection to the raw Jalisco landscape.
