I've been avoiding thinking about Denmark.

I've been avoiding thinking about all I had to leave behind.

I've been avoiding thinking about all the "goodbyes" I didn't get to say.

I've been avoiding thinking about all that I had hoped to do.

I've been avoiding thinking about Hans Christian Andersen.

I've been avoiding thinking about my professors.

I've been avoiding thinking about all the words I couldn't pronounce.

I've been avoiding thinking about hygge.

I've been avoiding thinking about Amagerbrogade.

I've been avoiding thinking about the first two and a half months of 2020, because my heart is full of so much joy and gratitude, but also sorrow and worry. Mostly, I'm thankful to be home, safe and healthy.

I'm still coping though. I'm still trying to process all that I gained and all that I lost. But I've decided that instead of avoiding my conflicting emotions, I want to embrace them and document the people, places, and experiences I owe to my time abroad.

As finals wrap up, I'm missing everyone. I miss living and laughing with you, .abbyp

So, over these next few weeks, I'll be sharing what I earlier couldn't bring myself to write about. Thank you for all the love and support.

Stay healthy and safe.

Glasgow Day 3:

We hoped to hike in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, but it turned into an even more interesting adventure.

Taking the train to Arrochar and Tarbet, we were dropped off on the middle of nowhere: just a platform that led to a walking path. At that time, we didn't know that the car park was on the opposite side. Walking in my first snow of the year, we found ourselves on a construction site eventually. After finding the road, we accidentally walked the wrong direction and had to turn around. Once we reached Loch Lomond, we had planned to hike around the water or catch a ferry to the other side to hike up Ben Lomond (you can see the summit in the fourth picture). However, there were no paths in the area, and the ferry was not running until 4:30pm.

So, we walked back down the same road and found a new trail near the station. The weather cleared, and we had a wonderful time collecting rocks and climbing trees. Although the day didn't go as planned, we still got to enjoy some of Scotland's beauty.

Note for reference: Go to the Balloch train station instead. @ Loch Lomond, Scotland

Glasgow Day 2:

Just above Glasgow Cathedral is the Glasgow Necropolis. Over 50,000 people are buried there, but only about 3,500 graves are marked. Another eerie and beautiful place. @ Glasgow Necropolis

Glasgow Day 2:

Glasgow Cathedral was built in the 12th century and gained additions over the years. It is the only medieval Scottish cathedral to have survived the reformation not unroofed. A truly beautiful work of art and faith, made better by free entry! @ Glasgow Cathedral

On Monday, Emily and I traveled to Glasgow, Scotland!

Glasgow Day 1:

Opened in 1901, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was built in the Spanish Baroque style, featuring twenty two galleries and a concert pipe organ, the collection and exhibition displays are quite extensive. My favorite pieces were John Lavery's painting of the ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova, and Salvador Dali's "Christ of Saint John of the Cross." Lavery was able to capture the vibrancy of life and color on stage from a studio, and Dali's perspective is unmistakably his.

I finished off the day with the most enormous fish and chips I've had so far at The Drum and Monkey Pub.

Kilmaonham Gaol, Dublin.

This was such a horrific and fascinating site to visit. The prison was first opened in 1796, and men, women, and children were unsegregated, with the youngest recorded prisoner being five years old. Up to five prisoners could be in one cell and during the Irish Potato Famine from 1845-1849, prisoners spilled into the hallways. Originally, it was built to hold about 1,000 prisoners. At that time, over 9,000 prisoners were at Kilmaonham. Many committed crimes on purpose so that they could be guaranteed at least one meal a day. Begging was also illegal during this time.

While it is an eerie place, I am glad to know that former prisoners themselves worked to save and later restore the prison so history could not be simply erased. @ Kilmainham Gaol

Oh, deer! Nice to meet you!

PSA to other tourists: wild deer are not pets! Enjoy their beauty from a distance and stop feeding them human produced food. The deer came right up to us expecting treats, and it could have been very dangerous considering their sharp antlers. @ Phoenix Park

Fanø Day 3:

I got up early to see the sunrise, and we spent the morning eating breakfast and relaxing before heading back to Copenhagen. I spent a few hours alone, walking along the coast and reading a short story about the Wadden Sea. I'm so grateful for such a beautiful weekend, and I'm even more excited to travel to Berlin with the same class in just a few weeks.

Our *attempt* at the Fanø folk dance. Later in the evening, I danced with a local and got the hang of it, but two beginners together was not successful.
