What your cleaning lady would tell you if she were not afraid of hurting your feelings:
Your Dyson vacuum cleaner sucks.

Not as in: It sucks up dust.
But as in: It just sucks. It takes too much time to get the job done.

At Mrs. Fox Cleaning, we always use our clients' vacuum cleaners when cleaning their homes, for hygiene reasons.

And very often, when we start with a new client, we're greeted by a battery-powered Dyson.

I understand. They look great. They're easy to grab for a quick clean-up. And those many attachments make it irresistible. You can just vacuum anything with it, right?

But here's the reality from a professional cleaner's perspective:
- The battery dies mid-clean.
- You have to carry five attachments through the home to do a thorough job at vacuuming
- Larger debris, like breadcrumbs on the kitchen floor, often gets pushed around instead of picked up, meaning you have to go over the same spot again and again.

For us, that means spending more time vacuuming and less time actually cleaning.

That's why I'm always honest with new clients:
If you want us to spend our time cleaning your home and not vacuuming the same area three times, please consider getting a corded vacuum.

There are plenty of great options that are compact, powerful, and bagless, so you don't have to worry about constantly buying vacuum bags.

And once our clients have seen the difference in speed and results, they rarely look back.

P.S. Yes, I constantly tell my team to bend their knees, not their backs. And yes, I still catch myself doing exactly the opposite. Photo by Maren Kindler Photography - Fotostudio Seehallen

Hot outside? Keep the cool air inside.

In Switzerland, most homes don’t have air conditioning. So during heat waves like now, keeping your home cool comes down to using the right routine.

The best trick is surprisingly simple:
Cool down your home during the night, then keep the cool air trapped inside during the day.

That means opening windows overnight or very early in the morning, then closing them and the shutters again once it gets warmer outside than inside.

On very hot days, this can already be necessary at 7:00 or 8:00 am.

One mistake we often see before sharing this tip with our clients:
Windows stay open all day because it “feels fresher.” In reality, the hot air keeps heating up the entire home.

Bonus tip: Save oven dishes and big cooking sessions for cooler days. Quick meals help keep your home much cooler during a heat wave as well.

PS: Working from home? No need to breathe the same air the whole day. The important thing is the temperature of the walls. You can still let fresh air in, but keep that “Lüften” session to a minimum.

I have my own office now.
And I almost didn’t celebrate it…

When you’re building a business, there’s always something more urgent going on. Something that needs fixing, organizing, or improving. So it’s easy to just move on to the next thing without stopping.

Luckily, my team doesn’t let that happen.
Yesterday, one of my employees said: “We should celebrate this.”
So we did.

With protein shakes - but at least in cocktail glasses.
Because we still had work to do afterwards.

I started working completely from home.
But over time, that became more and more impractical.

I don’t live where most of our clients are. So whenever my team needed products, I did a quality check, or anything else required my presence, it turned into unnecessarily long driving times.

Now the office is right where we actually need it - close to most of our clients.
It saves time, reduces coordination, and makes our workday a lot more straightforward.

I still clean toilets in my company.
Because most cleaners do it wrong.

This week, I onboarded two new team members.
And like every time, I start in the same place:
The bathroom.

Because that’s where the biggest (and most disgusting) mistakes happen.

After hiring 20 people, I’ve seen it all.
Even from people with cleaning experience in 5-star hotels:
- Applicants starting with cleaning inside of the toilet and then using the same cloth to clean the toilet flush button
- Applicants cleaning the toilet with the same cloth as the rest of the bathroom
- Applicants using the toilet bowl cleaner also for the toilet seat
- Applicants not cleaning the toilet brush at all

That’s why I’ve decided to ignore experience during onboarding and train everyone from scratch:
With my Mrs. Fox Cleaning method, my team:
- Uses cleaning cloths strictly color-coded. One color just for toilets.
- Uses the same technique for cleaning toilets that is used in hospitals
- Removes towels and toothbrushes before starting to spray the bathroom cleaner

Because, if people trust us to clean their home, I want them to be sure that the bathroom is really cleaned - and not bacteria being spread around.

If you’re in Zurich or Zug and looking for a cleaning service where you don’t have to think twice about the result, send me a message.

With caring wishes,

Do you still spend your weekends cleaning your home?

Modern motherhood makes you choose between:
A clean and tidy home
Spending quality time with your family
Pursuing and progressing your paid career

It’s impossible to maximize all three of them by yourself. You can only choose two.

Focusing on a clean home and your paid career? Not an option, especially while your kids are small.

Focusing on time with kids and a clean and tidy home?
I was a stay-at-home mum for two years, with an intense period with two under two. Our home? Okay-ish clean. Time spent with my children? The whole day.
My paid career? Non-existent. Yes, I was building a lot of skills for paid work, but money-wise, I lost my six-figure income during that time.

Focusing on time with kids and a paid career?
When I started my first business after having kids (it was a blockchain/web3 business, so something totally different from what I do today), I tried to focus on both my children and my business. And tried to ignore our messy home. But I felt bad about it. Because, if I am honest, I live by: clean home, clean mind.

So, I thought: Luckily, I don’t need to do all three things by myself, but I can outsource the cleaning part.

But then I quickly faced reality: the cleaning service I needed did not exist.
I did not want a cleaning service that just vacuumed around my kids' toys.
I need someone to tidy and, if needed, clean the toys.

When we agreed on a 09:00 am starting time, I expected the cleaner to show up at 09:00 am. We had a situation once where I was rushing to tidy everything up by 09:00 (as they did not tidy up), and then the cleaning lady arrived 20 minutes late. Guess what my kids did in these 20 minutes? Accidentally spilled the iron beads all over the living room floor.

So, as I wanted to start a new business anyway, I decided to tackle the challenge of providing a family-friendly cleaning service. A cleaning service that really understands the needs of families who need help with their daily chaos.

Today, one of the things I’m most proud of:
Many of our clients are hiring a cleaner for the very first time.
Why do I like that fact so much? Because we make a difference in the lives of our customers.

Instead of cleaning their homes on the weekends, they can now go out and enjoy the beautiful countryside that Switzerland has to offer. Spend quality time together as a family.

Instead of thinking about 20 cleaning tasks that need to be done and barely finishing 10, they can focus their energy on their paid work.

And that constant mental load? It finally gets lighter.

New clients sometimes feel embarrassed because they do not want to admit that they need help with cleaning.
After they start with our services, they say the same thing:
“I wish I had done this sooner.”

What would you do with your weekends if cleaning wasn’t on your list anymore?

PS: We truly mean it when we say: we clean, and we don’t judge.
Messy homes are part of real life, especially with kids. We’re just here to make life easier for you.

We’re Expanding! Now serving homes around Lake Zurich and greater Zurich/Zug area.

When I started my cleaning business, I had one big question in mind:
How can I bring automation and consistency to an industry that’s still often run on paper and guesswork?

I came from a background of helping other companies automate processes. But cleaning other people's homes? That was new to me.

So I started with what I believe is the fastest way to learn what matters: doing everything manually, learning what works (and what doesn’t) when delivering high-quality, personalized home cleaning.

From there, I began building systems:
- A smart scheduling app for my team to track time, view appointments, and see customer-specific notes like “do never empty the dishwasher!” (That’s a surprisingly important one. While our standard is to empty a clean dishwasher, some clients just want to empty it themselves)
- Employee onboarding processes that make training fast, clear, and repeatable.
- Work phones for every cleaner, with all the info they need, e.g., where to park, what exactly to clean, and what customer specifics need to be followed.

The results:
- Peace of mind for our clients - because we always follow their preferences.
- Clarity for my team.
- More time for me to work on my business, and not in it.

One of our new team members,a very experienced home cleaner, even said:
“I’ve never seen these easy-to-follow processes. Finally, I don’t have to guess what to do at a client’s home. Since having worked at Mrs. Fox Cleaning, I know what to.”

That’s exactly what I was aiming for.

Now that the systems are in place, I’m ready to grow by business beyond my immediate area.

If you live in or near our service area and are looking for a reliable cleaning service that truly takes the mental load off:
DM me or leave a comment.

My team and I would be happy to take care of your home with consistent, high‑quality cleaning, fully independent and always aligned with your wishes.

I used to hide my toothbrush before the cleaning lady came.
Why? Because I was worried that bathroom cleaner might land on it.

Fast forward 10 months into running my own cleaning business, and I’ve learned I was absolutely right to worry.

I’ve been told appalling stories by people who wanted to work in my team, about how bathroom cleaning is done at many other cleaning companies:
- Toilet cleaned, then the rinsing cups - with the same cloth full of toilet bacteria.
- Toothbrushes and cups left in place while spraying cleaner all around them.

That’s not just careless. That’s disrespectful.

When I founded Mrs. Fox Cleaning GmbH, I promised myself:
We clean homes, not empty showrooms, so we clean as if it was our own home.

These are our most important rules in the bathroom:
- Remove all towels and toothbrushes before even touching the bathroom cleaner spray.
- Clean toothbrush cups properly. In the kitchen, or in the bathroom, with vinegar and fresh kitchen cloths.
Cleaning isn’t just about surfaces looking shiny.

It’s about caring for the people who trust us with cleaning their homes.

Yours, Ursula Volpe

“Where do you offer your services?”

When I started my premium home cleaning business, I served the whole area around Lake Zurich.

However, after only a few months in business, I noticed that it’s inefficient and costly to operate in such a large area. My team was spending too much time stuck in traffic. Time that they could have better spent cleaning homes.

So, I followed the demand:
I decided to serve only between Zurich, Zug, and the western shore of Lake Zurich.

That even meant to “fire” dear customers who were living too far away.

Firing customers in an early stage of my business seemed like a risk at first sight, but it was the best decision I could have made.

Now, we serve in the triangle between Zurich, Zug, and Horgen/Wädenswil and in between. We also cover the east side of Lake Zurich, but only up to Küsnacht ZH.

With this, my employees spend less time traveling:
- They have more free time
- I can keep costs down, since I pay for travel time between clients
- And most importantly, we can also serve more customers during the day, without the need to clean in the very early mornings or late evenings (unless a customer requests it, of course).

Classical win-win-win.

“I’m sorry my home is such a mess.”

This is the sentence I hear most often when I visit a new client’s home for the first time.
And honestly? I get it. I used to say the exact same thing when we were looking for a cleaner ourselves.

My husband even used to dread cleaning day. Not because of the cleaners, but because I’d get so stressed trying to tidy up before they arrived. Toys everywhere, laundry piles, dirty plates on the kitchen counter…well, just everyday family life, but I still felt embarrassed.

That’s why at Mrs. Fox Cleaning GmbH, the high-quality home cleaning company I’ve been building since last November, we live by one simple rule:
We clean, and we don’t judge.

Our mission is to help you feel totally at ease leaving your home exactly as it is. No tidying before the cleaners come. No guilt. Just real help that fits into your real life.

We’ve been helping over 30 families in the meantime to spend more quality time with their loved ones instead of cleaning their homes.

And from September on, we will have new client spots open again!

Here’s what we provide with our “no-more-mental-load” household service:
- Standard cleaning AND tidying, e.g., also reorganizing cupboards
- Deep cleaning: ovens, fridges, washing machines…
- Hassle-free service: we bring cleaning cloths, tools, and products (except the vacuum) and take care of cleaning and re-stocking them
- “Natural” products: We clean eco-friendly with mostly vinegar, citric acid, baking soda…
- Laundry assistance
- Meal preparation
- Tailored support: Let us know what you need, and we’ll make it happen!

If you’re looking for the cheapest household help, we’re not the service you’re after. However, if exceptional service and peace of mind are worth it to you, we’d love to help.

Our price: CHF 53.49 per hour (taxes, insurance, and regular cleaning material included). With this, I can pay and train my employees well. Not only in “how to clean the right way” but also in “how to clean back-friendly.”
