Things people don't tell you about when you first get into real estate...

PART 1 - When they don't choose you after years of advice.

One thing no one tells you is that potential clients will pump you for info (especially if you're like me and always keen to help) for weeks and months and yes, sometimes YEARS.

If you're good at your job you make yourself available. You answer questions late at night, you hand-deliver holiday gifts, you check in often. You may even tell them that whether they sell with you or not, you’re always happy to help them understand the market and point them in the right direction.

Because to me, being a Realtor® is about more than just doing a deal. A big part of the job is being the trusted advisor. Helping people avoid mistakes. Helping them see the bigger picture. Steering them in the right direction even when there’s nothing in it for you.

Then one day you check in and find out they listed with another agent.

And honestly? Most of the time it works out just fine. Sometimes they go with a friend, a family referral or just decide to take a chance on someone else.

But that 1 time it doesn’t work out... that’s the one that sticks with you.

Maybe it’s the senior woman you’ve helped for years who gets convinced to sell off market without really understanding what her home may have been worth on the open market.

Maybe the difference doesn’t change her life. But maybe it does.

That’s the hard part about this business. When you genuinely care, you carry those things with you.

At the end of the day, every seller deserves to fully understand their options, the pros and cons of different selling strategies and what’s truly best for their situation.

If someone suggests something that you don't fully understand you need to ask for other opinions and make sure you, truly, get it before making a decision.

After 10 years with REMAX Masters Realty, I’ve officially transferred my license to Canadian-owned, locally founded Stilhavn Real Estate Services.

This move felt deeply aligned with my personal values around community, philanthropy, intentional business, and Canadian ownership.
