At one of our jobs this week we enjoyed 'reflecting' on all the work we accomplished. An entire wall of windows faced Haro Strait, some sections up to 6 meters (20 feet) high! It was relaxing, enjoyable work with cool ocean breezes on our backs and the peaceful sounds of gentle waves in our ears. Can you see Mt. Baker in the background? It might be easier to find in the reflection.

We did a house in East Sooke. It desperately needed the gutters cleaned. It took alot longer than expected, we were there all day. Because they were absolutely full of moss, as you can see in the picture, it required removing all of the gutter guards to vacuum it out and leave them with a completely clean finish.

Even with gutter guards installed, regular maintenance is still important. Over time, sun and weather loosens the granules from your roofing shingles. The granules, pollen, dust, and moss clog the mesh and reduce water flow. Debris can also build up inside the gutters creating a perfect environment for moss and plant growth and insect infestation (as you can see in the last picture). To keep your system working properly, we recommend cleaning the guards and flushing out any debris at least twice a year.

We were called to help with a roof moss removal and treatment in Esquimalt (we'd prefer to avoid the commute and work in Sooke "wink, wink") It was a beautiful day and the results were even more beautiful.

Picture 1: Moss acts like a sponge that traps moisture against your roofing materials, which can rot wood, curl shingles, and cause costly leaks.

Removing it requires a safe 3-step method: 1) blow off the debris,

2) remove the moss. Picture 2: You can see we broomed off the large chunks of moss and scraped the edge of the shingle to safely remove most of the moss.

3) Apply a chemical treatment to kill the remaining moss and roots. Picture 3: You can see the remaining moss between the shingles is now yellowed and dead.

To protect your investments, we recommend getting a chemical treatment every couple of years to prevent the damage before it happens.
