The truth is making a sample is the often the easy part. Deciding whether it belongs in the lineup is much harder.

Before a design earns its place, I spend time living with it. I use it, abuse it, and pay attention to what works and what doesn’t.

Does it solve a real problem?
Is it practical enough for everyday life?
Do I keep reaching for it?

The answers to those questions shape every design decision I make. Sometimes that means making sure a bag opens wide enough that you can actually see what’s inside. Sometimes it means checking whether a small crossbody can fit comfortably however you want to wear it. Sometimes it’s as simple as realizing I keep reaching for the same bag day after day.

Most of my designs start because I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted for myself. The testing phase is where I figure out whether or not I actually solved that problem. Because at the end of the day, I don’t want to make things that simply look nice. I want to make products that people genuinely enjoy using.

What’s the first thing you look for in an everyday bag?

Every market, someone picks up a wet bag and asks me a version of the same question:

“What do people use these for?”

The short answer? Almost everything.

While wet bags are great for wet swimsuits, that’s only one of the many ways people use them.

The small size is perfect for all those little things that disappear into the bottom of a larger bag and make a mess, like lip balm, hand sanitizer, charging cords or emergency supplies.

The medium size makes a great pack bag for travel, toiletries and everyday essentials.

And the large size has plenty of room for things like swim gear, travel items, and all kinds of other adventures.

The waterproof lining helps contain spills and makes cleanup easier, but it’s the versatility that keeps people coming back for for them.

While I’m busy working on a big coin restock for next week, I’ve been thinking about something. No matter how many coin pouches I bring to the market, there are always a few that people can’t resist picking up.

Sometimes it’s a favourite character.
Sometimes it’s a bright colour.
Sometimes it’s a print that makes someone stop, smile, and call a friend over to have a look.

I think part of the appeal is that they’re small and cute. But I also think that even though they were designed to hold coins, over the years people have found all kinds of way to use them. Everything from earbuds and lip balm to hair ties or tiny treasures that would otherwise disappear to the bottom of a larger bag.

These are some of the coin pouches I noticed people routinely picking up recently.

Now I’m curious…. When something handmade catches your eye, what usually stops you first? A colour, or print, or is it the item itself?

After the response to my recent Bapron (farewell) post, I realized there are quite a few new faces around here. So I thought it might be fun to share a few things people are often surprised to learn about Prairie Lily Stitches. If you’ve ever wondered why I design the way I do, this is probably a good place to start.

Every bag, pouch, and accessory is imagined, cut, sewn, and finished by me right here in Regina. Over the years, I’ve learned that I care a lot about practicality, thoughtful details, and creating things people genuinely enjoy using every day.

I’m so happy to say I’m all set up at the Regina Farmers' Market Cooperative! I love this little shop setup, it’s so bright and open. I’m in a slightly different spot than last year, but I’m not hard to find with all my lights 😁

This Saturday marks the beginning of the indoor market season for the Regina Farmers' Market Cooperative!

While I enjoy outdoor market days immensely, there is something special about setting up my little shop in Banner Hall again. The tables and crates get packed away, the grid walls come out, and Prairie Lily Stitches starts to feel like a tiny store. One of my favourite things about the indoor season is having the space to create a better shopping experience. More shelves, more displays, more inventory, and more opportunities to browse.

I’m looking forward to settling back into the space and welcoming everyone for another fabulous season.

It’s hard to imagine Prairie Lily Stitches without the Bapron. This was the first product that made me believe I could actually build a business from sewing. Through a name change, countless markets, and years of growth, the Bapron has been a constant part of my journey.

The batch currently on my cutting table will be the final Baprons I make. It is bittersweet, but it also feels like the right time.

I have a soft spot for bags that are practical without being boring.

Lately, the Horizon Bag has been my go-to whenever im heading out the door. It’s lightweight, easy to wear, and just the right size for everyday life.

The exterior pocket has become my favourite feature. My card clutch lives there, along with a few other essentials I reach for often.

Lightweight. Practical. Ready for everyday adventures.

Are you usually reaching for a crossbody, shoulder bag, or something else entirely?

One thing I noticed at my recent Saskatoon show was how many people stopped to take a closer look at the Echo Backpacks.

I think part of the appeal is that it doesn’t look like a traditional backpack. It’s compact without being cramped, lightweight, and designed to sit comfortably while still carrying everything you need for the day.

The wide mouth opening makes it easy to see what’s inside, while the front zipper pocket, interior zipper pocket and the tucked away drop pocket keep things organized and secure. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Prairie Lily Stitches design without lots of colour and personality.

The Echo Backpacks has quietly become a star among my designs because it strikes that balance I love most: practical enough for daily use but fun enough to make you smile when you reach for it.
