These are the 3 things you should always look at when buying any warranties.
1. Which company are you working with and what are their stipulations?
Not every company is as easy going on claims, some will find their way to get out of any claims, some will ask you to take additional steps to prove your issue. For example, even if you’re engine is knocking and you want to make a claim that you need a new engine, they’ll still ask you to take off the oil pan and show them the oil quality + any shards found in the oil and that labor isn’t free!
2. How much repairs are gonna cost?
Some engines cost $500 and some cost $5000, typically the price will depend on how common it is for that component to fail so always make sure you check the prices for a used engine or transmission so you aren’t asking yourself why you didn’t pick the warranty package with a higher claim amount later down the line!
3. How much do you regularly drive?
Warranty companies will typically offer packages which have 12000, 20000 and unlimited mileage (with a limit on the amount of mileage on the car) caps. You should calculate how much are you really driving, otherwise you’ll be covering more mileage than you’ll ever need!
Once all of those questions are answered, you’ll be able to decide which package works best for you. Don’t ever go into it blind because someone’s trying to sell you the highest warranty package, pick what makes sense for the car you’re buying.
