🚨 Home Awareness Program 2026 🚨

We are launching our annual Home Awareness Program with a simple goal: meet us at the door and help ensure your home has working smoke/CO alarms.

🚪 Between June–July (Cycle 1) and September–October (Cycle 2), firefighters will be visiting homes across to conduct a brief survey. This helps us better understand current compliance with smoke and carbon monoxide alarm requirements, especially following updated Ontario regulations that came into effect January 1st. These include expanded carbon monoxide (CO) alarm requirements on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas in homes with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages.

👨‍🚒 If we stop by and you’re home, we encourage you to take a moment to speak with us and complete the short survey.

📌 Not home? We’ll leave a door hanger with key information and a QR code linking to fire safety resources.

Look for awareness banners throughout the Town of Oakville as we roll out this public education campaign.

Together, we can strengthen home safety—one door at a time.🚪

Mississippi Mills Fire Dept had another busy weekend of training.

Mississippi Mills Fire Dept had another busy weekend of training.

Another busy weekend at the Mississippi Mills Regional Training Centre! 🚒

We were pleased to host two courses running simultaneously — Apparatus Equipped with a Fire Pump (NFPA 1002) and Fire Instructor Level I (NFPA 1041) — with firefighters building both technical and instructional skills.

While our Instructor I candidates were in the classroom working through lesson planning, instructional techniques, and how to effectively deliver training in alignment with NFPA standards, our Pump Operations students were out on the training ground putting theory into action — operating pumps, managing water supply, and completing hands-on evolutions designed to build confidence and competency on the fireground.

Running concurrent courses like this highlights the importance of developing well-rounded firefighters — those who can not only perform the job safely and effectively, but also pass that knowledge on to others.

Thank you to all instructors and participants for a great weekend of training, collaboration, and professional growth. 👏

June is Seniors Month. Each week this month, we will share some senior specific fire safety tips.

Week # 1️⃣ - Oxygen
Oxygen users must take precautions because anything that burns (such as clothing, carpets, drapes, furniture, etc.) will burn much faster and at a higher temperature in the presence of oxygen, if a flame or spark is present.
