Today was honestly a reminder of why “cheaper” is not always better.
One of my old clients hired a new cleaner to save money, and the poor woman ended up at the wrong house completely confused because there clearly wasn’t proper communication or structure in place.
And honestly? It bothered me.
Not because of HER.
Because workers deserve proper support, training, communication, insurance, and professionalism behind them.
People think hiring under the table or hiring “whoever is cheapest” only affects cleaning companies. It doesn’t. It affects homeowners, neighborhoods, and the workers themselves too.
This industry involves entering private homes, dealing with alarms, pets, valuables, children, elderly people, and personal spaces. There SHOULD be standards.
Professional businesses cost more for a reason.
Systems matter. Professional businesses cost more for a reason. Taxes, insurance, WCB, training, and proper systems are there to protect BOTH the homeowner and the worker. People think paying under the table is harmless until something goes wrong someone gets hurt, someone ends up at the wrong house, or a worker is left unsupported and exploited just because they were willing to do it cheaper. “Cheap” is not always ethical, and professionalism exists for a reason.
