A classic case, with a twist! (this could save you time & money!)
This kitchen sink has been reported to plug every couple years. What we discovered might surprise you!
Our client has a beautiful detached home, with a large double kitchen sink. The sink on the right runs straight through a garburator and connects to the sink on the left.
Both sinks were plugged so we know its further down the drain.
Surprisingly, we snaked a full 75 feet of cable before clearing the blockage, because of the layout of the home, the line runs horizontally for a long distance before connecting to the main stack!
We made sure to go above and beyond, we're not just here to clear a blockage and run, but to clean the entire pipe as well as possible, ensuring longevity.
As we suspected, this case was caused by a combination of factors. The garburator was causing heavy food particle build up and decreased ventilation in the drain, combining that with the long horizontal pipe that the water would have to travel through to reach the vertical stack, it's understandable why backups are occurring.
PRO TIP:
Ventilation is a key factor to good drainage. The more air in the drain, the faster the water flows through it & the further it can carry any particles that inevitably end up in the drain. In this case, the garburator (which was partially plugged) was causing the sink to drain slowly, as soon as we opened the clean-out below, the water drained much faster!
The long term resolution here would be to get rid of the garburator entirely and replace it with a standard sink drain to improve ventilation & ultimately decrease backups.
Another satisfied customer, another job well done.
