The US has dozens of tick species, and a handful can do real harm. Knowing which one you're dealing with matters.
• Blacklegged Tick (Deer Tick) - The one to watch. The primary carrier of Lyme disease is found across the Northeast, Midwest, and Pacific Coast. Caught early, it's treatable. Left too long, it can cause serious neurological damage.
• American Dog Tick - East of the Rockies and along parts of the Pacific Coast. No Lyme risk, but it transmits Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Tularemia.
• Brown Dog Tick - Found in all 50 states and the most common tick indoors, usually arriving on pets. Check your animals every time they come inside.
• Rocky Mountain Wood Tick- Rocky Mountain states into the Pacific Northwest. Transmits Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and can cause tick paralysis in people and animals alike.
After any time outdoors, check yourself, the kids, and the pets. Learn more: https://www.abellpestcontrol.com/en-us/my-business/commercial/tick-prevention
