The SA government has confirmed parasitic pest varroa mite has been detected in South Australia for the first time.
The discovery was made at Pooginook in the state's Riverland during routine surveillance by PIRSA inspectors.
The infested hive is believed to have originated from Queensland.
A biosecurity notice is being issued to beekeepers.
