The SA government has confirmed parasitic pest varroa mite has been detected in South Australia for the first time.

The discovery was made at Pooginook in the state's Riverland during routine surveillance by PIRSA inspectors.

The infested hive is believed to have originated from Queensland.

A biosecurity notice is being issued to beekeepers.

Today, I want to share a story that’s egg-citing, egg-centric, and just a little bit egg-stravagant. Yep, you guessed it, it’s the legend of Humpty Dumpty!

Now, Humpty, bless his oval-shaped noggin, had this grand idea to perch himself on a wall. But let’s be real, he didn’t consult with any building inspectors. Rookie mistake, am I right?

But did Humpty listen to any thing I have said? Nah. So there he is, chilling on this precarious wall, living life on the edge and what happens? Well, you know the drill – he takes a tumble.

But here’s the kicker: if Humpty had just invested in my property condition report, he’d probably still be in one piece today!

Lesson learned, folks: always get a building inspection before you buy, especially when your life literally hangs in the balance.

And remember, if Humpty had me inspect, we might not have had this hilarious nursery rhyme to chuckle about on my facebook landing page. So, here’s to Humpty Dumpty, the unsung hero of building inspection fails! Cheers, everyone!

Today, I'd like to share a story about Miss Muffet and her unexpected encounter with European wasps. As many of you may know, Miss Muffet was peacefully enjoying her breakfast of curds and whey when suddenly, she was interupted by a swarm of hungry European wasps buzzing around her. Like many of us, she fled, and the poor café owner was miserable.

Let me introduce you to Sundew Verspex baiting systems, a solution inspired by nature itself. Sundew plants, native to Europe, are known for their sticky, insect-catching leaves. Similarly, the Verspex baiting system employs a clever baiting technique to attract and trap European wasps effectively.
Just like Miss Muffet found herself in a sticky situation, European wasps are often a nuisance, especially in outdoor settings where they can disrupt gatherings and even pose a threat to human health.

Accreditation in European Wasp for baiting and eradication when the nest is not in your yard or not located. I always prefer direct application of insecticidal dust into their nest.

Sundew Vespex to the rescue. These products are the only registered products to treat wasps that are not on your property but because you have pets or fruit trees and they then become your problem.

A liquid bait and attractant has been developed which does not attract bees.

This is safe to use in many applications but more so for our vast wine and grape viticulture, our vast fruit plantations and tourist areas in the Adelaide Hills.

Who do you know that has annoying feral European wasps that love to drop in and say hello. I can exterminate the nest if located, can trap and monitor and or bait.

When in Singapore you never stop thinking about termites. These are Macrotermes Carbonarius. A non destructive species that break's down leaf and other compost material. They are unusual dark in colour because they can forage outside the nest in the open. The soldiers have a major and minor members seen in the photo.

Public Service Announcement.

At Pulse we treat bees the the respect they deserve. Extermination is the last resort and will only be carried out if people have allergies and the bees cannot be captured.

Our warranty if we cannot capture the bees we will try and get them to move on with a harmless concoction of peppermint oil. Keep keepers use this to help transfer bees from one hive to another. This works roughly 60 percent of the time.

If the bees do not move on and they look to be establishing a hive inside a wall or crevice then we will return free of charge and do the unpleasant task.

At Pulse we try to save the bees in the first instance.

There are limitations and not all swarms can be treated with either methods for example in tall trees and some chimneys.
