Holy Macaroni! Would you look at that!
I’ve been sitting on this gem of a transformation for months!! (Posted with homeowner permission)
What a glow up. Seriously. This is the kind of job my lower back lives for.✨️✨️
Is your shower glass looking like something out of a murder mystery and you're spooked by your own reflection?
If yes… you’re not alone. I'm here to help you save it!
😑 before we go any further, quick reality check:
Some glass can be saved… and some glass can absolutely not. It is what I lovingly call “glass cancer.”
(Technical term: mineral etching that has permanently bonded into the surface..no amount of scrubbing will fix it.)
Here’s a quick way to test if it can be saved.

The razor test.
Grab a scraper blade (the bunnings style ones with the handle and safety head).
Wet the glass and the blade. KEEP IT WET!
Light pressure only...lay it at a very shallow angle and scrape in long, steady strokes.
If you see white buildup lifting onto the blade yay! Repeat. And repeat. And repeat. And if the glass underneath starts clearing?
🎉 You’ve got hope.
If it stays cloudy no matter what comes off?
I hate to say it… but that’s likely permanent etching. You'll either have to install new glass, or embrace the mystery of the fog.

Now for this specific shower transformation
This was a full wild but satisfying reset job. Here’s exactly what went into it:
1. Thorough wet down of all surfaces
2. Applied 40:60 mix of CLR Original + water using an extendable flat scrubber
3. Left to dwell for 30 minutes
4. Aggressive scrub of glass, tiles, and all surfaces
5. Razor blade scrape (vertical topto bottom lines)
6. Dish soap + water scrub to neutralise and lift remaining residue
7. Wet 0000 steel wool (small circular motions) for stubborn build-up
8. Repeated cycles on glass, flor tiles, and walls (its amazing those discoloured brown spots on tiles can actually be lifted)
9. Drains + tapware detail cleaned with wet 0000 steel wool
10. Squeegee dry (glass + tiled walls)
11. Microfibre polish of all surfaces
12. Final product polish of glass & tapware (Halo is my go to finish)
13. Exterior glass, frame, and edging cleaned and polished
14. Stand back… question life choices... cry a little… admire your handiwork.

It is.
But it works. And you can do it!! 💪
If your glass passes the razor test, it can usually be saved with the right process, or process of elimination!
