Things didn’t quite go to plan yesterday, but we still ended up with exactly the result we were after!

During pre-feeding, we had the trap door propped open so the pigs could move in and out freely before we set the trip wire. But somehow, the pigs knocked the prop out, closing the door behind them and trapping themselves prematurely. With live updates coming through from the trail camera, we made a quick dash to site and dealt with the pigs accordingly.

Seven pigs removed in total, including one mature sow and the cautious mature boar that had previously been hanging back from the trap. The whole mob we’d been monitoring was caught—a 100% success rate and a great result for the landholder. Not quite how we planned it, but we’ll certainly take the result.

The pigs have been very frequent here so time to introduce our brand new trap to them. We will give them a few days to get used to the trap and feel comfortable before we set it.

🐗 NEW PIG TRAP ADDED 🐗

We’ve just added another pig trap to keep up with demand!

Feral pigs are tearing up paddocks across the district, and with dry conditions tightening, pressure on available feed is only going to become more of an issue.

To help local landholders get on top of the problem, we’ve now increased our trapping capacity.

We offer:
🔹 Full trapping services — we take care of the trapping for you
🔹 Pig trap hire — hire a trap and run it yourself

If pigs are becoming a problem on your property, get in touch with Boxwell Feral Animal Control to discuss your options.

I couldn’t say it better myself. There is a lot more to jobs than just pulling a trigger.

I couldn’t say it better myself. There is a lot more to jobs than just pulling a trigger.

One comment we hear all the time, both on Facebook and in person, is, "You have the best job."

The truth is... we agree. We genuinely love what we do and feel privileged to work in some incredible environments while making a real difference for agriculture, conservation, and native wildlife.

But what many people don't see is everything that happens behind the scenes.

Long, cold and wet nights. Hours spent preparing and maintaining equipment. Detailed planning and risk assessments. Site inductions. Strict safety procedures. Endless paperwork, permits, and documentation and equipment costs.

To put it into perspective, one recent operation involved around two hours on the ground to humanely euthanise two animals. However, there was approximately 15 hours of work before and after those two hours, including planning, approvals, site inductions, equipment preparation, risk assessments, reporting, and documentation.

The time spent in the field is often the smallest part of the job. The planning, preparation, compliance, and follow-up are what ensure every operation is carried out safely, legally, professionally, and humanely.

That's the side of the job most people never see.

We caught this big fox just in the nick of time—he was practically licking his lips at the sight of the brand-new twin lambs. Protecting our customers’ livestock is exactly why we do this.
