First Nations Fashion Design- AAFW

Congratulations to all the fabulous creatives that were involved with the FNFD show. You are incredible.

It was such a privilege to pattern make and sew for my beautiful friend I’m so proud of you and all your hard work. All the tears and stress was worth it.

I’m so excited for the future of FNFD and the collections that will follow.

Now in true last minute style (like always) we only have 6 weeks until the next collection due 🤣

Let me explain my obsession with this word.

Sartorial: from the Latin word sartor, which means tailor. It describes a lifestyle relating to a love for classic, timeless garments made with the highest level of craftsmanship.

When I was about to enter my first year of tafe my mum bought me a book called The Sartorialist, this became my fashion bible and my go to for inspiration. The Sartorialist is a collection of photos of outfits from around the world. This book created my obsession firstly not only with this word, but also how you can create sustainability through your own fashion designs.

When I was creating my label I had to develop a strong mission statement. So here it is;

“Sartorial, anytime of the day and night.”

What does it mean? I believe you express your own personality through your outfits, you are yourself in the garments that you feel most comfortable in. I take pride in my meticulous tailoring. So essentially, my outfits are not only tailored to perfection, they are timeless outfits that will never date.
