As temperatures drop, pests head indoors for warmth and can often go undetected until their droppings give them away. The earlier you can use these droppings and other signs of infestation to identify what you’re dealing with, the faster you can implement pest management strategies!

🐀💩 Rats leave droppings as they scurry around so it’s unusual to see a mass in one place. Roof rat droppings are curved pellets with pointed ends around 12mm long, while Norway rat droppings are blunt and sausage-shaped pellets around 19mm long.

🐭💩 Mouse droppings typically resemble 3-6mm small grains of rice and are often found in areas where they’re feeding such as kitchen cabinets, pantries and storage areas.

🐾💩 Small possums produce droppings that look quite similar to those of large rats, however they are more rounded and can vary in colour from dark brown to green depending on their diet. Unlike rats, possum droppings are often found in large piles as they revisit specific areas such as under trees or near rooftops.

🪳💩 Droppings from small cockroaches look like ground coffee or black pepper but much more uniform, slightly shiny and sticky. Droppings from larger cockroaches can be distinguished from mouse droppings as they are smaller, have ridges along the length, blunt ends and will not have fur within them.
