Wow, what an experience 😍

I can now tick planes off my list ✅

This Mooney M20’s new paint job is inspired by a bluebird 🐦 but there’s a catch…

When they asked me to come and quote it for a ceramic coating, they showed me the quality of the paint job - they won’t mind me saying that the word “disappointing” is an understatement. The company that painted it left plenty of paint runs, humidity bubbles, overspray, and plenty of deep sanding marks all over it.

They also left barely any paint on, with some spots measuring less than 40 microns.

So the aim for this particular job was to preserve as much clear coat as possible and then ceramic coat it to protect it going forward 🫡

While it would have been great to be able to sand it back and buff it up to a mirror finish, there just wasn’t enough paint to work with to do it safely. So I gave it a light paint enhancement using Gyeon Primer, and then applied GYEON Australia Aero ceramic coating to all the painted surfaces 👌

I also did a few paint chip touch ups, and shout out to Albury Auto Paints for being able to get a super close paint-match at a moments notice 🙌

Thank you to the owners for the opportunity to spend this past week at the hangar working on what is still a beautiful looking plane 😍 it really brought out the depth and richness in the colour!

I’m a very fortunate man, and glad I was able to work on something like this before I go back to part time 👌

Well, one chapter closes but another opens… 📖

But I can’t lie - this post is a tough one to make.

Due to changing circumstances, I’ve made the decision to finally get a “real” job and take Cal’s Car Care part-time.

I’ve been detailing for 11 years, and running my business full-time for 5.5 of those. There have been equally significant ups and downs and at times I’ve both loved and hated being a small business owner 😂 I’m sure plenty can relate. But it’s becoming a bit of a thorn in my side that I need to pull out.

I’m passionate about detailing, though, so I’ll still be operating - just at a very limited capacity. I’m still looking after my regulars and am keen to continue doing paint corrections and ceramic coatings to restore and protect your pride & joys 🙌

I’m incredibly appreciative of the support I’ve gotten over these 5.5 years. Fantastic customers that have trusted me with their vehicles and spread the word when they’ve been happy with the results. I can’t ask for more than that. Even the support I get when sharing life news (like right now) is always appreciated and I’m incredibly grateful that I’ve been able to connect with people on a level that’s more than just a transaction.

I’ll still check in from time to time (I have a pretty cool job next week that I’m keen to show you all 👀), but for the meantime, it’s a tentative goodbye 👋 and a massive thank you 🙌 for allowing me to run this thing.

Throwback Thursday to one of the coolest cars I’ve been able to work on 🙌

A custom-built HQ that came in to get just about every single inch of it ceramic coated ✨

It came in freshly painted and I was tasked with sanding it down and polishing it up to this insane finish, deep cleaning everything to prep it all for coating, then coating it - even down to individual components on the engine and engine bay, every bit of the interior, and all that glorious metallic orange paint 😍

Throwback Thursday to this time last year when I had the privilege of working on this gorgeous Mercedes 190SL ✨

I was trusted with restoring the depth, gloss and clarity back into the paintwork and protect it with GYEON Australia Infinite Type 2 Base & Top Coats 🙌 I threw a before shot in there so you can see how much of a difference it made to the tired paint - came out looking brand new 👌

🦁 2007 Holden Caprice 🦁

Another black Holden in for some TLC 🙌

It came in for a two stage paint correction, headlight restoration, and GYEON Australia ceramic coating.

The goal for paint correction, especially on these older cars and cars that are prone to oxidising paint, is to preserve as much clear coat as possible - that means that I can’t chase after every deeper/medium scratch in the finish. I was still able to achieve some great defect removal and some insane depth and gloss 😍

I also sanded back and clear coated both of the headlights to restore them as close to factory as possible!

It was then coated with Gyeon Infinite Type 2 Base & Top Coat ceramic coatings on the paintwork and headlights, and Gyeon Trim on the exterior black trim components ✅

🦁 2017 Holden Commodore SS VF Series II 🦁

This SS came in with pretty low km’s for its age, but years of car washes had left the paint swirled, scratched and dull.

I gave it a thorough decontamination wash, and then carried out a two stage paint correction to remove the scratches and swirls, and really bring the depth and gloss back into the metallic black paint.

I then coated it with GYEON Australia Infinite Type 2 (Base & Top Coat) ceramic coating for long-term durability to lock in the finish and make it easier to maintain going forward 🙌

While it was here, I also machine polished the glass and coated it with Gyeon CanCoat Pro, restored and coated the exterior plastic with Gyeon Trim, gave the interior a clean then protected the carpets with Gyeon Fabric Coat and the plastics with Gyeon Purify Coat ✅

I threw a couple of before and afters in there so you can see the paintwork transformation 🫣

I’m back 👋 😊

✅ got the tick of approval from the surgeon so I’m back in action!

Thanks for all the supportive messages and comments during the past four weeks, as well as patience from people contacting me as I was in the furthest thing from “work mode” possible 😂

A gentle reminder that I’m booked out for the next 4 weeks and am currently not taking on any new customers for the time being 🙅‍♂️

UPDATE 👋

As of tomorrow, I’m going to be off work for the next 5-6 weeks due to a surgery and the recovery period!

I wish it was for a holiday 😂

I’m back March 16th BUT - I’ve already got the first two weeks back booked out. At this stage I am not taking any more bookings, but if you get in touch with me, I will be able to give you recommendations for great local detailers so you don’t have to wait 🫡

I’ll still be contactable via Facebook, Insta and my mobile (0478 018 483) but may not be as active on them for the next two weeks.

I’ve already had some kind words, so thank you every body, and I’ll see you all when I’m back towards the end of March! 🎉

2017 Audi S3 ✨

Earlier this week I had this Audi S3 in for an overhaul - a full deep clean of the interior and a two stage paint correction on the exterior 🙌

The interior wasn’t too bad, but needed some TLC - shampoo of the carpets and mats, deep clean of the leather seats, plastics and trim deep cleaned, as well as the door jambs and windows 👌 now it’s looking and feeling fresh 🍃

The paint was covered in scratches and swirls, and had a bit of a dull look to it. The two stage paint correction NV really brought out the purple metallic flecks, especially in the light ☀️ and added heaps of depth and gloss. It looks dripping wet 💦

I love details like this because it can feel like picking up a brand new car from the showroom floor - even if it’s nearly a decade old and you’ve owned it for a while 😉

Tesla Model 3 🌹

I recently had this Tesla Model 3 in for some GYEON Australia exterior ceramic coatings 👌

The owner does a fair bit of travel and wanted to be able to was the bugs off super easy, as well as ease of maintenance going forward. I applied Gyeon Infinite Base & Top Coat to the paintwork after a two stage paint correction, and Gyeon CanCoat Pro to the windows after a machine polish ✨

The paint was very thin and so I had to go about the paint correction to preserve as much clear coat as possible - even with that, I was able to produce a deep, rich gloss from the red paintwork 😍
