Objective:
Lightyear is a photo of the day project, it is about using your Camera and your skills every day. This means your camera is not sitting in your camera bag not being used and you are learning. Over the last five years my skills have grown so much, I thought I knew what I was doing in 2012 when I started my first Photo of the Day year, but I was so wrong. Lightyear 2013 brought together
7 photographers to build a year of photos together. Lightyear 2014 started an International effort, with photographers from all over Asia, the USA and Europe. Contrasting weather, seasons and styles as well as locations has been truly interesting to watch as we all become better photographers, always keeping our eyes open for the next great shot. Rules:
Take a photo every day, it does not matter what or how, Macro, HDR, Landscape, pencil sharpener, it does not matter. (Only 1 photo a day to be posted) It is hard sometimes to pick only one photo if you have lots of great photos from a shoot, I just post the rest on my FB page as “runners up”. I set an alarm on my phone for 9pm to remind me to take a photo if I have not done so, it has saved me many times and resulted in many simple but desperate photos of things like my feet and my desk, but they are still photos. I tend to think of photos more often and keep ideas in hand for these types of occasions, there are lots of flowers in your gardens too. Medium, Any, but as the photos are posted to FB, you will have to scan any Film to digital, so digital is the end result. Resolution, Any, but I would recommend the FB standard for best results. Camera, Any, does not matter if you use a DSLR, Point and Shoot or even your phone, uploading direct from the phone can be problematic sometimes, see Housekeeping. Posting, You do not need to post every day, we are all busy, so you may not have time, posting once a week should be ok, but your photos will appear in groups on FB news feeds and may lose some of their impact if you post them all together. Posting your photos 3 hours apart usually means they appear on their own in the News feeds. Please watch the instructional video on how to prevent this from happening. No Tagging Do not tag the photos, this may drag people to the page that have not liked it and sometimes people get upset about this, not sure why, but they do. Just invite anyone in your photos to like the page, that way they will get to see all the photos. The Group, we will all be different, but I take the time to look at all the photos, and appreciate the art as it might even give me ideas for my next photo. Theme Weekends, if you have an idea for a theme for the whole group, please PM an admin, Ron or Leah so we can format the theme to avoid confusion, ask me how I know this. Best photo from the weekend get the Banner. Copyright: Your photos are your photos, I put a watermark on my photos that does not obscure the photo and I suggest you do the same, but it is a public forum and should be treated as such, don’t post anything you don’t want people to see. Any rude, illicit or offensive photos will be removed. Housekeeping:
Everyone will be posting 365 photos during the year so it is important we keep things tidy. You will all have rights to upload and post but there are some simple rules to keep the page tidy. At the start make your own photo album, my photo album is RABSP, but you can call your album whatever you like. When you post a photo use the following format so everyone can identify your photos. Initials/Name Julian Day, Title
RABSP Day 222, The Rules
Also try to tag the location too. If you forget to title your pic correctly and have trouble fixing it, just let me know and I will help you fix it. The Group: If you want to take part for the year, go and like the page and I will give you rights to post, if you have any friends that you think would like to take part, let them know to like the page so they can join and let me know so I can grant them rights.. Only post photos and theme suggestion. Non photos or shares will be removed. Lastly, but most importantly, invite all your friend to like the page on Jan 2, the more people that join the more that get to see all the photos, this may in turn get others out there taking photos. I look forward to seeing all your fantastic photos.
