Tomorrow, Monday 27 July at 2:00 pm (AEST), the Australian Government will be conducting a nationwide test of the AusAlert Emergency Warning System.

If you have a compatible mobile phone, smartwatch or tablet, you may receive a loud emergency alert and a TEST MESSAGE – even if your device is on silent or Do Not Disturb.

There is no need to be alarmed.
✅ This is only a test.
✅ No action is required.
✅ There is no need to contact emergency services.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, our team is aware of the test and will be on hand to reassure and support any participants who may be startled by the alert.

It was a great opportunity to step away from the busy day-to-day operations, enjoy a meal together and recognise the incredible work our management team puts in across Custom Care & Accommodation.

👋 Meet the Director | Jay Rickard

Hi everyone, I’m Jay, the Director of Custom Care & Accommodation.

People often ask me why I chose to work in disability, and the answer is pretty simple—I genuinely love caring for people.

My career actually began in aged care, where I found a passion for supporting people living with dementia, complex behaviours and those requiring palliative care. Those years taught me far more than clinical skills; they taught me patience, compassion and the importance of seeing the person behind the diagnosis.

One of the biggest influences in my life was caring for my father-in-law. Being there for someone you love gives you a completely different perspective. It showed me what families go through, what good support really looks like, and how much trust people place in those caring for their loved ones.

I also hold dual qualifications in Aged Care and Disability, which gave me the opportunity to bring my experience into the disability sector. Today, I specialise in supporting people living with dementia and complex behaviours—something I’m incredibly passionate about.

When I started Custom Care & Accommodation, it wasn’t because I wanted to own a business. It was because I wanted to build the kind of service I’d be proud to have care for my own family.

A service where participants aren’t just a number.

Where families know they’ll be listened to.

Where staff are supported, educated and empowered to provide exceptional care.

Even now, as Director, I still enjoy being out with participants, supporting our team, working alongside families and helping solve the challenges that come with complex care. That’s the part of the job I’ll never lose.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us to support you. It’s a privilege that I never take for granted, and I’m excited to continue growing a service that’s built on genuine care, respect and doing the right thing.

It’s advocating when someone’s voice isn’t being heard.

It’s adapting, learning and thinking outside the box.

It’s sharing laughs over terrible jokes.

It’s cheering on achievements that others might overlook.

It’s showing up—every single day—with compassion, patience and respect.

Disability support isn’t just about care.

It’s about helping people live the life they choose.

To every support worker, family member, allied health professional and advocate… thank you for making a difference.

At Custom Care & Accommodation, we believe every person living with dementia deserves support from staff who are not only compassionate, but highly skilled, knowledgeable and confident.

That’s why we’re proud to launch our Professional Excellence Program—a comprehensive 12-week training academy designed to develop one of the most highly trained dementia support teams in the region.

Our staff will complete advanced learning in dementia care, communication, person-centred practice, positive behaviour support, clinical skills, safeguarding, leadership and more, while also completing professional development from leading Australian organisations.
