School holidays are beautiful. They're also a recipe for burnout. 🔥

The kids are home. The work didn't stop. The mental load just keeps stacking.
No white space. No recovery time. Everything urgent. All at once.

This is exactly when burnout creeps in.

There is a simple practice we use with our clients when the juggle gets overwhelming, balls get dropped and the mental noise gets loud. It's our adaptation of Brian Tracy's ABCDE method.

A — Must do. Real consequences if it doesn't happen.
B — Should do. Important, not urgent.
C — Nice to do. No real fallout either way.
D — Delegate it. Not yours to carry.
E — Eliminate it. Chuck it. Gone.

That last one is where the relief lives.

You don't need more discipline. You just need permission to put a few things down.

The kind people noticed.

When was the last time you prioritised real rest and didn’t feel guilty about it?

Not scrolling.
Not half-working.
Not mentally running through shopping lists and tomorrow’s to-dos. 🤪

Real goddam rest.

Most high achievers have the discipline part down pat, but struggle to give themselves permission to pause.

We’ve been taught that rest is something you earn once everything is finished.

But as we all know, the work (at work and at home) is never actually finished.

So maybe it’s time to flip the priority list and put rest much closer to the top.

Because without recovery, clarity drops.
Patience shortens.
Decision-making suffers.

Rest isn’t indulgent.

Rest is protective.

Sometimes the most strategic thing you can do for your work and wellbeing is pause long enough to recover.

Nervous systems read nervous systems. 🧠

The way you walk into a room, your energy, your tone, your pace, your level of calm or tension sets the tone for how others feel and, in turn, how psychologically safe they feel.

In my corporate years, I didn’t understand this. I was ambitious and capable, but often dysregulated, exhausted, anxious and operating in survival mode. I didn’t realise how much that internal pressure was influencing my patience, my reactions and my ability to handle challenge without becoming defensive.

Psychological safety is not built by policy. It is built in micro moments, and those moments are shaped by capacity.

Wellbeing isn’t indulgent. It’s crucial leadership work. When you prioritise your nervous system, you improve your clarity, your decision making and your ability to create trust, which directly improves performance.
