UNDERSTANDING IGL AEGIS HEAT LIMITS & WHY CERTAIN AREAS CAN’T BE COATED 🔥❄️

Whilst IGL Coatings Aegis offers long-term protection for undercarriages, suspension components and chassis areas, it is important to understand that not every part of a vehicle can safely be coated.

IGL Aegis is designed to withstand temperatures up to approximately 155°C.

Components that regularly exceed this temperature can cause the coating to break down, reducing its effectiveness and durability over time.

For this reason, we do not coat high heat areas such as:
• Exhaust systems
• Exhaust manifolds
• Turbo housings
• Engine blocks and other extreme heat components

Applying coatings to these areas can lead to premature failure due to constant heat cycling and excessive temperatures.

Instead, we focus on protecting the surrounding components that are most vulnerable to moisture, grime and environmental exposure — helping reduce the likelihood of future rust and corrosion where the coating can perform as intended.

SURFACE RUST vs CORROSION — What’s the difference? ❄️
Not all rust is the same, and understanding the difference is important when it comes to protecting your vehicle’s undercarriage.

Surface rust is light oxidation that sits on the top layer of the metal. At this stage, the metal underneath is still structurally sound.
Dry ice blasting can remove contamination, grime and light surface rust, helping expose a clean surface ready for protection.

Once cleaned, applying IGL Coatings Aegis can help protect the surface from moisture, road grime and environmental exposure — reducing the chance of future rust forming.

Corrosion is different.
Corrosion begins once rust has penetrated into the metal itself.
This can lead to pitting, flaking, weakening and structural deterioration over time. Unfortunately, dry ice blasting cannot repair or reverse corrosion once the metal has been damaged.

Whilst IGL Aegis can technically still be applied over corroded areas, Exquisite Blasting generally prefers not to coat corroded components.
This is because no coating can guarantee protection once corrosion has already begun beneath the surface.

Moisture can still work its way into compromised areas and continue the corrosion process underneath. At that point, the coating can only help slow the deterioration — not stop or reverse it.

For the best long-term result, we recommend repairing or replacing corroded components prior to coating.
This ensures the protection system works as intended while also saving customers unnecessary time and money in the future.
