Hello Goulburn people

Unfortunately Dave is still in hospital.
Once he is released, he will be moved to a Rehabilitation Facility, hopefully in Newcastle.

Sadly, Dave will not be able to drive for some time after his recuperation.
It is plausible that Dave may not be able to service his pools in Goulburn until late in the year, into the new year.

To assist with finances during this time, my mother has put together a GoFundMe page.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated, as is the endless support you have shown Dave.

For those that have been following the Dave saga...

Dave just got a bed on the ward.
His new address is Bed 5, Ward G2.

How long he will be there, no one knows.

As yet, we've no idea what criteria he needs to meet to be discharged.
Hopefully that will be defined early next week.

Right now our priority is getting him to eat and drink.
He's pretty much refusing hospital food, apart from the prepackaged desserts.

Update, Wednesday 26th June, 2024.

Dave remains in ICU at JHH but that is mainly due to a lack of beds on the ward.

How long he'll remain in ICU no one knows.

No one knows how long he'll be in the hospital overall either.

While he is still displaying signs of amnesia, and while he is still a risk to both himself and others, he'll remain in hospital..

I write this while he is being taken for an MRI.
It is the thought that this MRI will provide an answer to questions and maybe light a path forward.

Today has been a day of successes -
He is speaking short, coherent sentences;
He went for a short walk with the nurse and physio in tow (without protesting and without putting himself back to bed);
He willingly had a small amount of food and drink (though screwed his nose up at the hot meal provided to him. Hospital food is not his thing!);
He's been awake the bulk of the day and in an upright position;
He remembered old friends names and recognised faces of new friends he's made through his pool business;
He asked for his phone so he could "see the messages" I was talking to Rushi about as we had lunch with him (and he frowned at me when I apologetically told him it was flat);
He "read" a car magazine and;
He, (Rushi and I think) read the title of the upcoming TV show on the TV screen in his room.

Hard as the past days have been, there is a light.
No matter how flickering and dull it at times appears

{Always kiss your loved ones goodnight}

Thursday morning Dave was taken to Maitland Hospital by ambulance
(after being held down by 4 cops and a paramedic, while the second paramedic injected a sedative.)

Twice.

From Maitland Hospital he was taken to ICU at JHH via the critical care ambulance.

Dave is still in ICU and we are waiting for him to be moved to a ward.

It seems the most plausible theory is he has suffered a cardiac event whilst on a 3am trip to the toilet, which has caused him to fall, hitting his head and inflicting head trauma, including a fractured skull and bleeds on the brain.

He seems to be able to recognise people and objects, but the words are not there.

Nor is the desire to stay awake, eat food, or follow instructions.

Please feel free to share, and if I don't respond to comments or messages, please know your words of love and support are helping us through.
Words are difficult to find. And even harder to articulate. 💕

❤️ Meredith ❤️
