What do you do if you see a snake?

1- get to a safe distance.
Make sure you get yourself, your pets and any children in the area to a safe distance.

2- keep an eye on the snake (at a safe distance).
It sometimes takes a long time for snake catchers to get to the location, so having someone keep an eye on the snake or have an idea where it might be hiding makes our jobs a lot easier. We can only catch what we can find.

3- call a snake catcher.
Call Rickard Reptile Relocations at 0491 752 743 and I will ask you to do the prier two steps along with your address and give you a ETA.

‼️Attention Bellarine and Geelong‼️

Snake catcher Ezekiel Rickard 0491 752 743
Available 24/7 $150 relocation fee

With the weather warming up again over the weekend, there’s a high chance their will be snakes out and about. So if you have any of these curious creatures getting around your property and want them moved on, please give me a call.

I am located in Drysdale and can ensure fastest response time anywhere on the Bellarine peninsula, I am also available to anywhere in Geelong and surrounding areas.

⚠️snake safety⚠️
If you see a snake on your property, the first thing you should do is get to a safe distance, make sure no pets go near it and then call a snake catcher. (Please try and keep an eye on it while doing this because we can’t catch a snake we can’t find)

If you have had a pet involved with a snake then take the pet to vet immediately.

Please do not try and approach a snake, especially if it may be injured. If a snake feels cornered or uncomfortable it may start to act defensively, which is how most bites occur.

To wrap things up, I hope some of this information is helpful, and you never have to use it. But if you do please call a pro, it may save your life.

Yesterday 24/10/25 I had a call out in leopold of a similar looking tiger snake as the one pictured (picture from google images) It was a very healthy snake around 1200mm in length and quite fat. It was the first tiger snake I’ve had to relocate, and also the first tiger snake I’ve seen on the Bellarine peninsula. He was safely released nearby where he will not bother anyone.

Today a fellow snake catcher sent me to go catch this copperhead in point Lonsdale. Found it hiding under a toy after some locals had harassed it a little into going under the fence and hiding(no harm to the snake)

Please remember to never touch or aggravate a snake because that will lead them to act aggressive and possibly bite.

And if you want the snake to be caught then keeping an eye on it will greatly improve the chances of us snake catchers finding it.

This snake was safely released (not too) nearby and was in very good health. Roughly 1100mm long

Please call me at 0491 752 743 for any snake relocations around the bellarine, Geelong and surf coast areas

Below you will find a few photos of one type of snake. Anyone want to guess which one?

That’s right, it’s the lowlands copperhead, the most common snake you will find on the Bellarine peninsula.

Now as you can see in the photos below, they have quite a few colour variations and are commonly confused with eastern browns or red belly blacks. Both of which you will not find on the Bellarine peninsula. (Unless brought through on shipments, hay, wood ect)

These snakes are most common nearby to creeks, rivers, dams, wetlands and bushy areas. Feeding on frogs, lizards, small rodents and even other snakes!

They are also quite timid snakes, and although considered highly venomous, they will be harmless if unthreatened and admired from a distance.

The weather has warmed up and it is breeding season at the moment, and snakes will be on the move to try and find a partner.

Snakes might be inclined to take up refuge in your yard if, you have low growing/bushy plants, rats or mice(usually around chickens), live near a river/creek/dam, have any scrap/logs laying around and if your lawn is not well maintained.

If you have snake on your property please give me a call at 0491752743
I live in Drysdale and can insure the fastest response anywhere on the bellarine peninsula

Regards,
Ezekiel Rickard

‼️ warning ‼️
Most snake bites in Australia are due to people attempting to handle or kill a snake so please be safe and call your local snake catcher

What to do if you have a unwanted snake on your property ⬇️

If there’s a snake in your yard first get to a safe distance and make sure you keep all your pets/children away from the snake (inside or on a leash). And then make sure you call your local snake catcher (my # 0491 752 743 for the bellarine, Geelong and surf coast areas) while keeping an eye on the snake from a safe distance.
We will then be on our way asalp (as soon as legally possible).

If there’s a snake inside your house, make sure you again, get yourself and your pets/children to a safe distance or another room.
And then call your local snake catcher (my # 0491 752 743 for the bellarine, Geelong and surf coast areas).
The snake will likely be scared and try to find cover under or behind something, eg furniture/curtains/toys ect.
If you can isolate the snake to one room and put a rolled up towel at the bottom of the door so it can’t get under, then it makes our job of finding it way easier.
I DO NOT recommend but if you are game and ONLY when you are not panicked, then you may be able to use a broom to sweep the snake out side, to another room or into a corner.
DO NOT try this on big(700mm+) snakes as they can easily get stuck on top of the broom and come back when you pull.
If you do sweep the snake into a corner then throwing something like a towel or a pillow near it will give the snake some cover which might be enough to keep the snake there.
If you throw something ON it it will likely panic which can lead to it acting aggressive.

If there’s a snake inside your car or shed.
Get to a safe distance and call your local snake catcher(my # 0491 752 743 for the bellarine, Geelong and surf coast areas).
Keep an eye on all possible exits you can think of while keeping a safe distance and make sure you keep your pets/children away from the area.

Remember, keeping yourself, your family, and your pets safe is the number one thing.
Getting a licensed snake catcher to remove the snake is number two.

Also remember that most snake bites in Australia are from inexperienced people trying to handle snakes, and all snakes in this area are considered highly venomous and could result in a fatality if left untreated.
Although killing snakes is illegal and can result in a $9,000+ fine it is also second for most people getting bitten.
So please for the safety of yourself, and sanity of your family, call a snake catcher.
