Island Laundry and Linen Small batch business-to-business linen hire and laundry service catering to the holiday home, accomm We manage towelling items in the same manner.

We provide a linen hire service as well as the laundering of customer-owned linen. We operate a small batch service which means, in the case of customer-owned linen, your linen is washed, dried, ironed (if appropriate), and packed independently. Our ironing service uses either a 4 metre commercial press and folder or a 2.2 metre wide roller to press any flat items such as sheets, napkins, tableclo

ths, pillowcases and some doona covers. We cannot press items with studs, buttons, zips, ties, heavy embossing or embroidery, or elasticised items such as fitted sheets. These elements are likely to jam or cause damage to the item or the roller and are simply washed, tumbled-dried and hand-folded whilst warm. Our opening hours are 0800 - 1600 Monday to Friday - closed weekends and public holidays but can organise out-of-hour drop off or collection if there is no alternative. We do not currently have a delivery service as we have chosen to work in with local couriers Coby Watters for the west of Parndana and Darren Sparks for Emu Bay, Kingscote, Parndana, American River, Island Beach, and Penneshaw. New customers: we do not have any additional capacity for customer-owned goods but are expanding capacity for hire of commercial linen and towelling.

We are looking for a Casual Laundry Hand to join our team. We seek to maintain a friendly work environment which is a sought after place of employment for those wishing to provide a professional service to our hospitality colleagues.

This role is to cover for one of our team who is on maternity leave and may approach full-time work over the busy summer period.

In this position, you will be working in a team organising, cleaning and sorting hire and owner linens, including sheets and towels. The position also requires you to use provided cleaning materials to tackle items needing extra attention. You will report directly to our operations manager who will guide you through best practices and address any concerns in fulfilling your duties. This is the perfect position for anyone detail-oriented who enjoys working independently, takes pride in his or her work and is flexible in their employment hours. Depending upon the success of the business, some after-hours or weekend work may be required however this is not immediately envisaged.

Job Responsibilities
Sort articles before cleaning, separating them by fabric, colour, cleaning technique or dirt content for best results
Load articles into washing machines at regular intervals to ensure steady availability of towels and linens
Regulate machine processes when starting washers, driers and other equipment; turn levels and valves to control volume of additives, specific cycles and temperature
Lubricate equipment to provide light service to machines, and clean or change machine filters when needed; alert manager when machines are in need of professional repair
Sort and count articles as they are removed from dryers; hang, fold or wrap the articles according to requirements or personal attention to detail
Operate a roller-iron and occasional hand iron to finish items
Remove stains on fabrics though application of a variety of cleaning techniques and materials
Use a hand or machine marker to place identifying names or code numbers on laundry - this is not currently in place but could be considered in future.
Utilise a range of cleaning methods and solutions to tend to stained articles, through pre-soaking, spot-cleaning, sterilising, scrubbing and drying articles as needed
Careful documentation of items processed for accounting purposes Completing a suite of daily, weekly or other scheduled tasks to ensure a clean, safe and efficient work environment
Communicating with couriers, cleaners, property owners and managers to ensure we offer a steady, predictable and reliable service.

Job Skills & Qualifications Required:
Must be able to manage individual loads of up to 20 kg - lifting but also using provided manual handling aids - trolleys, appropriate working heights, breaking heavy loads into more reasonable weights, and maintaining safe work practices and manual handling techniques
Must be able to work standing for long periods
Excellent organisational skills
Drivers licence and vehicle or other means of attending work when required Ability to perform standard business math calculations
Verbal and written fluency in English
Preferred:
High school diploma or equivalent - or demonstrated numeracy and literacy abilities
Previous experience as a laundry worker

We operate Island Laundry and Linen under Schedule B (Laundry Classifications) of the Dry Cleaning and Laundry Industry Award, which is Modern Award number MA000096.

Due to work on the electricity supply at the premises, Island Laundry and Linen will not be operating next Tuesday. We can supply hire linen to cover any shortfall this may cause and apologise for the inconvenience. Casual Laundry Hand
Island Linen and Laundry is a business-to-business service located at Cygnet River and is part of the Exceptional Kangaroo Island group. The business caters for the accommodation sector with linen hire and laundering service, with most customers being holiday home owners. Laundry is processed in single batches of owner linen and we strive for a high standard of customer service and a consistent presentation of linen as the final product.
We are seeking a self-motivated person to join our team as a laundry hand, initially on a casual basis. The role is likely to expand into a permanent part-time or possibly a full-time role, depending on demand. The business is supported by the management team from Exceptional Kangaroo Island, the administrative office of which is a minute away on Playford Highway.
The role involves co-ordinating arrival and dispatch of laundry, sorting of linen and managing it as a batch as it moves through the process of washing, drying, ironing (roller iron) and folding. Items are domestic or commercial in nature - domestic being sheets, towels, pillow-cases, doonas, doona covers and the like. The commercial items are tablecloths and napkins for dining and events, as well as chair covers. The role also involves treating marks or stains, marking those needing repair or replacement.
Careful documentation is required for jobs as they are either packed and dispatched for hire items, or finished and packed for owner linen. The successful applicant will report to the Laundry Manager and work side by side as part of a small team, and be expected to be able to work independently. We require someone who is punctual and enthusiastic with a good work ethic who takes pride in their work.
We are seeking someone with a strong attention to detail and a desire to work efficiently. The successful applicant will be motivated to work thoroughly without cutting corners, in order to properly care for each article. The applicant needs the stamina to perform manual labor in an industrial setting, including lifting and carrying reasonably heavy objects - training will include manual handling and a focus on packing of laundry bags to keep individual lifts at a safe and comfortable weight.
