We are looking for a Casual Laundry Hand to join our team. We seek to maintain a friendly work environment which is a sought after place of employment for those wishing to provide a professional service to our hospitality colleagues.
This role is to cover for one of our team who is on maternity leave and may approach full-time work over the busy summer period.
In this position, you will be working in a team organising, cleaning and sorting hire and owner linens, including sheets and towels. The position also requires you to use provided cleaning materials to tackle items needing extra attention. You will report directly to our operations manager who will guide you through best practices and address any concerns in fulfilling your duties. This is the perfect position for anyone detail-oriented who enjoys working independently, takes pride in his or her work and is flexible in their employment hours. Depending upon the success of the business, some after-hours or weekend work may be required however this is not immediately envisaged.
Job Responsibilities
Sort articles before cleaning, separating them by fabric, colour, cleaning technique or dirt content for best results
Load articles into washing machines at regular intervals to ensure steady availability of towels and linens
Regulate machine processes when starting washers, driers and other equipment; turn levels and valves to control volume of additives, specific cycles and temperature
Lubricate equipment to provide light service to machines, and clean or change machine filters when needed; alert manager when machines are in need of professional repair
Sort and count articles as they are removed from dryers; hang, fold or wrap the articles according to requirements or personal attention to detail
Operate a roller-iron and occasional hand iron to finish items
Remove stains on fabrics though application of a variety of cleaning techniques and materials
Use a hand or machine marker to place identifying names or code numbers on laundry - this is not currently in place but could be considered in future.
Utilise a range of cleaning methods and solutions to tend to stained articles, through pre-soaking, spot-cleaning, sterilising, scrubbing and drying articles as needed
Careful documentation of items processed for accounting purposes Completing a suite of daily, weekly or other scheduled tasks to ensure a clean, safe and efficient work environment
Communicating with couriers, cleaners, property owners and managers to ensure we offer a steady, predictable and reliable service.
Job Skills & Qualifications Required:
Must be able to manage individual loads of up to 20 kg - lifting but also using provided manual handling aids - trolleys, appropriate working heights, breaking heavy loads into more reasonable weights, and maintaining safe work practices and manual handling techniques
Must be able to work standing for long periods
Excellent organisational skills
Drivers licence and vehicle or other means of attending work when required Ability to perform standard business math calculations
Verbal and written fluency in English
Preferred:
High school diploma or equivalent - or demonstrated numeracy and literacy abilities
Previous experience as a laundry worker
