An efficient bathroom clean isn’t about working harder. It’s about following the right process.
When you clean in the correct order, the job becomes easier and you avoid the frustration of chasing the same grime around the room.

Start by removing items and dry dusting / vacuuming the entire space to clear away hair and loose debris. Working from high to low.

Wet the shower, spray your cleaner and allow it to dwell for a few minutes so it can break down buildup before you scrub.

Agitate all of the surfaces properly, then rinse thoroughly, squeegee the shower dry and buff tiles, glass and fixtures for a streak-free finish.

Repeat a similar process for the sink, vanity and mirror, followed by the toilet.

Ensure you are wiping down the surrounding areas like cabinets, switches and wall tiles as you go, and give any loose items a quick wipe over before placing them back.

Finish with the floors.

Cleaning properly isn’t just about the products you use.
It’s about using a system that works!

Are microfiber cloths actually bad for the environment?

You might have seen people online saying microfiber cloths are terrible because they release microplastics.

And yes… that part is true.

Most microfiber cloths are made from synthetic fibres like polyester and nylon. When they’re washed, tiny fibres can shed into the water system.

But here’s the part that rarely gets mentioned.

Microplastics don’t just come from cleaning cloths.

They also come from things most of us use every single day…
polyester clothing, fleece jumpers, carpets, upholstery… and yes, even those beloved yoga pants.

So when it comes to cleaning products, it’s often a bit of a “pick your environmental evil” situation.

Disposable wipes create huge amounts of landfill waste.
Paper towels are used once and thrown away.
Microfiber cloths can shed microplastics.
Using cotton cloths can mean having to use a harsher chemical to get the same cleaning result.

None of them are completely perfect.

The reason professional cleaners still use microfiber is simple. They clean extremely well and trap dust, grease and bacteria effectively, which means you can clean using far less chemical product and far less disposable waste.

A good microfiber cloth can last hundreds of washes, replacing countless paper towels and wipes.

Eco cleaning isn’t always about perfection.

It’s about making the better choice where you can and avoiding the worst options.

What do you use at home
Microfiber cloths or traditional cleaning rags?

3 Low-tox Cleaning Swaps That Actually Work

There’s a lot of “eco cleaning” advice online that honestly just doesn’t cut it in real homes.
Lemon slices and baking soda aren’t going to degrease a stovetop after a week of cooking.

But there are some low-tox swaps that genuinely work just as well as harsh chemicals.

Here are three I use in real homes every day:

1. Hydrogen Peroxide instead of bleach
Great for disinfecting bathrooms, lifting organic stains and whitening grout.
It kills germs without the strong fumes.

2. Plant-based surfactants instead of heavy degreasers
A good coconut-derived cleaner lifts grease and grime surprisingly well without leaving that chemical residue smell in the house.

3. Microfibre instead of multiple products
A quality microfibre cloth can remove a huge amount of dirt and bacteria with just water or a mild cleaner.

Eco cleaning doesn't have to make things harder or less effective.
You can get the same clean and hygienic result for everyday cleaning tasks - without filling your home with unnecessary chemicals.

If you’re trying to make your home a little more low-tox, start with small swaps like these.

Which one would you try first?

10 Step Sunday Reset to Keep Your Home on Track!

If your home starts to feel a bit chaotic by the end of the week, this is a routine reset that brings everything back to baseline. Nothing too over the top and not deep cleaning - just a practical system to get your home feeling fresh, calm and ready for the week ahead. Save it for Sunday and work through it at your own pace.

1. Start the laundry
Get a load going straight away.
2. Do a full bin sweep
Grab a bag, walk every room, collect all rubbish, take it out and reline bins.
3. Basket reset
Take two baskets through the house:
• One for items that don’t belong
• One for dirty laundry
4. Reset each room as you go
Put items back where they belong, strip and remake beds.
5. Keep the laundry moving
Hang or dry the first load, then reload the machine.
6. Dust + wipe surfaces
Work left to right, high to low.
Don’t skip skirting boards and windowsills (dry dusting will do) this is part of what makes a home feel fresh and dust free
7. Kitchen reset
Do the dishes, wipe benches, and exterior of main appliances.
8. Bathroom clean
Quick but thorough - wipe down the shower / bath, toilets, basins and mirrors
9. Final laundry rotation
Dry your second load and reload if needed.
10. Floors last
Vacuum and mop to finish everything off.

This isn't about perfection or deep cleaning - it’s about bringing your home back to a fresh, calm and functional starting point each week. A regular reset routine helps prevent overwhelm and extensive deep cleaning in the future!

Why a home can be tidy... but still not look it!

Most of the time, it comes down to dust.

It builds up in the areas people don’t always notice day to day:
• skirting boards
• windowsills
• edges of floors and corners
• surfaces that look “fine” at a glance

When these spots are missed, a home can feel dull and musty - even when everything is neat and organised.

Keeping on top of dust in these areas is what gives a home that fresh, well-kept feel.

It’s often not about needing to clean everything every day…
just focusing on the right details that make the biggest difference.

Ensuring you vac / sweep / mop regularly can also limit the opportunity for dust to fly around, settle and make your home feel unclean in the first place. So, if I were to add just one extra daily cleaning chore besides dishes and laundry - it would be clean floors!!!

Dust is something I heavily focus on in every clean - because it’s one aspect that keeps a home consistently feeling fresher for longer!
