Facts About Plastic
5% percent of plastics including all food wrap products and 85% of plastic bags contain some type of estrogenic chemicals and can leach out over 20 different types of chemicals into your food.
• 50% of the plastic we use, we use just once and throw it away.
• One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans.
• 44 % of all seabird species, 22 % of cetaceans, all sea turtle species and a growing list of fish species have been documented with plastic in or around their bodies.
• Plastic constitutes approximately 90 percent of all trash floating on the ocean's surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile.
• Plastic is not biodegradable, but photodegradable,in reality, most plastic does not ever disappear, but becomes long-lasting "plastic dust".
• Plastic is harmful to Hormonal Balance : BPA mimics estrogen in the body, so many people try to stay away from the toxin by using BPA-free plastics instead. A recent study suggests, however, that BPA-free plastics do also contain endocrine disruptors.
• The evidence of the damage is so strong that in China, Europe and Canada the use of BPA has been banned in the production of baby bottles. However, in the USA and Australia, BPA can still be found in everything from receipt paper, soup cans, plastic-packaged foods, baby bottles and water bottles.
