I have heard of a lot of people getting ripped off by the larger plumbing companies lately.
Unfortunately you hear of the Big companies who pay lots of money to get the highest ranking on google ripping elderly customers off too much these days. They prey on older people with doom and gloom scenarios for issues they have so that people agree to them to start working without any pricing at all.
If the people that represent the company you have called can’t give you at least a rough price on labour and material works, or for blocked drains an hourly rate that covers the machinery and specialised tools they are going to perform works with, refuse to let them start work at all!!!!!
Also don’t sign anything at the door before they start or have even looked at the job as it seems this is a trick that they use to charge a big call out fee before they even start.
If your a home owner know where your water meter is, it is easy to turn off until you get some quotes. If you have tanks ensure your shut off valves are all working correctly so you can turn water off. If you are an elderly person don't be afraid to ask a neighbour to turn off your meter as most people are happy to assist.
Blocked drains can be worrying but also can be managed by limiting water use until you can get someone who will at least give you a set hourly rate to clear.
Check where the actual companies business address is too. Some will service everywhere, but the companies that actually have a street address in a suburb near you will nearly always be better value for your dollar.
Also check they are licensed. All plumbers, gas fitters and electricians are required to carry their license whilst working.
Hope this may help people in the future.
