What does your Sunday look like?🧐

Washing? 🧺
Tidying? 🧽
Grocery shop? 🛒

Or resting? 🧘‍♀️

One of the things I treasure most is time, it’s much more value than 💰!

And with that time, it best spent on the things that matter most- .

I truly believe self care can look like so many things-

✅ Time with Family 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒
✅ Pamper time 🛀
✅ Nature walk 🏖️
✅ Coffee with a friend ☕️

This is your weekend reminder to put whatever that important action first-

And don’t feel guilty 👩‍⚖️

The socks can be matched another day, but the quality ent be there tomorrow.

Have a fantastic Sunday ahead and make it about !!!

Winter is the season when coughs, congestion, and colds seem impossible to escape. As we cozy up indoors, the same recirculated air that keeps us warm also becomes a highway for seasonal germs. Luckily, nature has given us a powerful, fragrant arsenal to fight back. Here are the 5 best essential oils to help you and your family navigate the cold season, each one backed by robust science.

Eucalyptus Oil — The Unmatched Airway Liberator 🌬️
When a stuffy nose makes breathing feel like a chore, eucalyptus oil is your best friend. Its power comes from a compound called 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), which has been used for centuries to treat common colds and other respiratory issues.

❄️ Why it's a winter must-have: A 2023 systematic review confirmed that eucalyptol enhances mucus clearance, reduces airway resistance, and offers anti-inflammatory, mucolytic, antimicrobial, and mild bronchodilatory benefits. A 2024 study even found that eucalyptol enteric capsules can significantly attenuate airway inflammation and obstruction. A clinical study also showed that aromatic ointments containing eucalyptus oil helped patients experience faster nasal cooling and decongestion.

🔬 The science: Eucalyptol works by inhibiting inflammatory factors and interacting with transient receptor potential (TRP) channels to reduce coughing and airway irritation.

💡 Pro tip: Add 3–4 drops to a bowl of hot water, lean over it with a towel draped over your head, and inhale deeply for 5–10 minutes. (Remember to keep your eyes closed!)

Peppermint Oil — The Cooling Congestion Reliever 🌿
Peppermint oil offers immediate, cooling relief for a sore throat and stuffy nose. Its superpower is menthol, a natural compound that tricks your brain into feeling increased airflow.

❄️ Why it's a winter must-have: A 2024 review detailed peppermint's role in strengthening the immune system and preventing respiratory viruses, including COVID-19. A 2023 systematic review also noted that menthol, the active ingredient in peppermint, activates the TRPM8 channel, helping to reduce irritation and cough.

🔬 The science: Clinical trials on aromatic ointments containing menthol and eucalyptus oil found that patients experienced relief from nocturnal cough and nasal congestion, leading to better sleep.

💡 Pro tip: Feeling a tickle in your throat? Add 2 drops of peppermint oil to a carrier oil and rub it on your chest for cooling vapors that travel straight to your nasal passages. (Alternatively, a single strong sniff from the bottle can quickly clear your head.)

Tea Tree Oil — The Airborne Virus Fighter 🦠
Tea tree oil is a potent weapon against the viruses that cause winter colds. Its efficacy isn't just folklore—it has been scientifically validated in the lab.

❄️ Why it's a winter must-have: A 2026 comprehensive review confirmed that tea tree oil displays antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activity, which are all beneficial for preventing and managing respiratory infections.

🔬 The science: In laboratory studies, tea tree oil aerosols inactivated model viruses with more than 95% efficiency within just 5–15 minutes of exposure. Its primary mode of action involves disrupting the viral membrane, which prevents the virus from infecting host cells.

💡 Pro tip: Diffuse 5 drops of tea tree oil in your living room or bedroom to help purify the indoor air, especially if a family member is already sick. (Note: Always use tea tree oil in a diffuser, never ingest it.)

Lemon Oil — The Bright-Eyed Immune Stimulant 🍋
While it may be famous for its clean scent, lemon oil is also a powerful antimicrobial agent that can help reduce the bacterial load in your home and stimulate your body's defenses.

❄️ Why it's a winter must-have: Researchers in Japan found that diffusing lemon essential oil in an office space reduced the rate of colds by about 50% and improved work efficiency.

🔬 The science: Diffusing lemon oil is believed to help boost the immune system and stimulate the production of white blood cells, thereby increasing your body's ability to fight off illness.

💡 Pro tip: On days when the air indoors feels stale, combine 4 drops of lemon with 2 drops of eucalyptus in your diffuser. It acts like a "green juice" for your air—cleansing, energizing, and uplifting.

Cinnamon Oil — The Antiviral Shield 🧣
Cinnamon bark oil is a fragrant warrior against winter viruses. Its spicy warmth is more than just comforting; it actively fights bacteria and reduces lung inflammation.

❄️ Why it's a winter must-have: A comprehensive 2021 review noted that the essential oil of cinnamon exerts potent antiviral effects against influenza type A virus. Furthermore, research on cinnamon bark oil has demonstrated its ability to reduce airway hyperreactivity and macrophage accumulation in the lungs during an immune response.

🔬 The science: The main active component in cinnamon oil is trans-cinnamaldehyde, which has been shown to inhibit respiratory tract pathogens like Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.

💡 Pro tip: Diffuse cinnamon oil when cold symptoms start to appear. Its warm, spicy scent can calm coughing fits and provide a decongesting effect without the need for harsh chemicals. Note: Cinnamon oil is a "hot" oil; always dilute with a carrier oil before applying to the skin.

🧫 7 Interesting Facts About Mould You Probably Didn't Know
1. Mould is older than dinosaurs. 🦕
Fossils show mould-like fungi existed over 400 million years ago. It was here long before us—and it'll be here long after.

2. There are over 100,000 known mould species. 🌍
And scientists estimate there could be hundreds of thousands more. Only a small fraction are common household troublemakers.

3. Mould doesn't need light to grow. 🔦
It's not a plant. It thrives in dark, damp places—which is why your bathroom corners, basements, and behind washing machines are prime real estate.

4. That "musty smell" is mould's chemical weapon. 👃
The earthy, damp odour comes from microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs). Basically, mould is gassing you while it spreads. Rude.

5. Mould can grow on almost anything. 🧱
Wood, drywall, carpet, fabric, paper, leather, even dust. If it's organic and even slightly moist, mould will try to eat it.

6. Some mould is actually useful. 🧀🍷
Penicillium mould gives us blue cheese, penicillin antibiotics, and helps cure salami. So not all mould is bad—just the kind crashing your shower.

7. Mould can grow in as little as 24–48 hours. ⏱️
Spill water on drywall and forget about it? Within two days, you could have a tiny mould colony starting its hostile takeover.

Bonus fact: Mould spores are everywhere—in the air, on your clothes, on your skin. You can't eliminate them completely. But you can control moisture to keep them from throwing a party. 🎉

Welcome to at ! 🧼✨

With winter coming in cold parts of Australia, mould gets worse. Why? Because when you heat your home and seal up windows, condensation forms on cold surfaces (like bathroom walls and caulk). Add poor ventilation, and you've got a mould playground. 🥶💨

Today, let's talk about the #1 most requested (and most misunderstood) spot in any bathroom: the caulk.

Clients, agents, landlords—so many people think that black line in the caulk means we didn't clean it. 😤

Truth is: We've tried everything. Bleach? Vinegar? Hydrogen peroxide? Tea tree oil? None of it works once the stain is embedded. Here's the science 👇

🧴 Why bleach is COMPLETELY useless on caulk:

Bleach can't pe*****te porous surfaces. Caulk (especially old acrylic or latex) is semi-porous. Mould roots (hyphae) dig into the material. Bleach is 90–95% water—it sits on top, evaporates, and never reaches the roots.

It's a temporary illusion. Bleach whitens the surface colour, but once it dries or rinses away, the embedded mould pigment returns. Studies show bleach does not kill mould roots on porous materials (Journal of Applied Microbiology).

You're watering the problem. That 95% water soaks into caulk cracks, giving mould the moisture it needs to regrow stronger within 24–48 hours.

Bleach degrades caulk over time. It breaks down chemical bonds, making caulk brittle, cracked, and more porous. Congratulations—you just built a 5-star hotel for mould. 🏨

🚫 Why those black stains are permanent (the hard facts):

Mould grows inside the caulk. Old or cheap caulk develops microscopic cracks. Mould roots burrow deep—like trying to wash a stain from the inside of a sponge.

Pigments chemically bond to the material. Certain mould species (like black mould Stachybotrys chartarum or pink Serratia marcescens) release pigments that literally dye the caulk. It's not dirt—it's a colour change.

Caulk has a shelf life. Most shower caulk lasts 1–5 years max. Once it cracks, peels, or turns yellowish, it's "dead." No cleaner will restore its integrity. You're trying to polish a crumbling ruin.

✅ The only real fix (backed by every professional cleaner):

Remove and replace the caulk.

Scrape out the old caulk completely

Clean and dry the area thoroughly

Apply 100% silicone caulk (mould-resistant and non-porous)

Squeegee after every shower and run the fan for 20 minutes

Prevention tip: New silicone caulk, combined with weekly vinegar spritzes, can stay mould-free for years. Go one step even better and grab our Grout Cleaner which has you covered for the natural ingredients for mould treatment and prevention.

So no, we're not magicians. But we will tell you the truth—and save you hours of scrubbing with bleach that doesn't work. 💪

This seems to be a very common statement which makes it way onto many many cleaning forums.

Some enthusiasts recon it the most effective way to treat mould.

But is it???

The answer to this question is False!

Here is why:

🧪 The Bleach Breakdown: Why It's Not the Mould-Busting Hero We Thought

Here’s the thing: bleach is great for a lot of things. It whitens your whites, disinfects your counters, and makes your bathroom smell like a swimming pool. But when it comes to killing mould for good, it has a major flaw.

The issue isn't that bleach can't kill mould—it can, on the surface. The problem is that bleach can't pe*****te porous surfaces. Mould has roots, called hyphae, that dig deep into materials like wood, drywall, and grout. Bleach is mostly water, and water just sits on top. It might remove the surface stain, but the roots remain, alive and well. You're essentially giving the mould a haircut, not a death sentence.

What's worse, the water in the bleach can actually provide the moisture mould needs to grow back stronger. It's a vicious cycle: you see the stain disappear, think you've won, but a few days later, it's back with a vengeance.

Key Scientific Finding: A landmark study published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology found that while bleach can kill surface mould, it is not effective at penetrating porous materials to kill the root structure.

🌿 The Green Clean: Natural Alternatives That Actually Work
So, what should you use instead? Nature has provided some incredible, research-backed mould fighters. Let's meet the team.

1. White Distilled Vinegar: The Household Heavyweight
White vinegar is a mild acid that can kill up to 82% of mould species by penetrating porous surfaces to attack the root structure. It's non-toxic, cheap, and you probably already have it in your pantry.

How to use it:

Pour undiluted white vinegar into a spray bottle.

Spray directly on the mouldy area and let it sit for at least one hour.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Repeat as needed.

2. 3% Hydrogen Peroxide: The Oxygen-Powered Assassin
Hydrogen peroxide is an antifungal and antiviral agent that works by oxidising the mould spores. Research shows that hydrogen peroxide can achieve a >3 log reduction (a 99.9% reduction) in mold spores on surfaces.

How to use it:

Spray 3% hydrogen peroxide directly onto the mould.

Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow it to bubble and pe*****te.

Scrub and wipe clean. It's especially effective on grout and hard surfaces.

3. Tea Tree Oil: The Natural Fungicide
Tea tree oil is a potent natural fungicide that has been shown in studies to inhibit mould growth at very low concentrations (as low as 0.06%). It's a heavy hitter, but it comes with a strong scent.

How to use it:

Mix 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil with 1 cup of water in a spray bottle.

Shake well and spray on the affected area.

Do not rinse. The smell will fade as it dries.

4. Baking Soda: The Gentle Deodoriser
Baking soda is a mild alkali that can kill mould, absorb moisture, and neutralise musty odours. It's great for small spots and for preventing future growth.

How to use it:

For a spray: Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 cups of water.

For stubborn spots: Make a paste with baking soda and water, apply, let sit, then scrub.

5. Clove Oil: The Potent Protector
Clove oil is another powerful essential oil. Research has shown that clove oil can provide complete protection against mold growth for up to five weeks on wood surfaces. It's one of the most potent natural options available.

How to use it:

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of clove oil with 1 cup of water.

Shake well and spray on mouldy areas.

Let it sit for a few hours before wiping.

🧠 The Science of Mould Prevention
Killing mould is only half the battle. To truly win, you need to create an environment where mould doesn't want to live in the first place. Mould needs three things to thrive: moisture, food (organic material), and the right temperature.

Tips for prevention

Keep humidity below 50%, as mould struggles to grow in low humidity.
Use exhaust fan as it removes moisture.
Fix leaks immediately to eliminates standing water sources.
Improve ventilation Air circulation prevents moisture buildup
Wipe down shower wall to remove standing water that feeds mold.

📝 The Bottom Line

Bleach has its place in the cleaning cabinet, but when it comes to mould, it's often the wrong tool for the job. By switching to natural alternatives like vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or tea tree oil, you're not just hiding the problem—you're actually solving it.

And the best part? These natural solutions are safer for your family, your pets, and the environment.

So next time you see that black spot in the grout, put down the bleach and grab the vinegar. Your lungs (and your walls) will thank you.

Have you tried any of these natural mould fighters? Which one is your go-to? Let us know in the comments! 👇🧽✨
