From the iconic koala to the elusive Western Swamp Tortoise, over 550 native Australian species are fighting for survival against habitat loss, climate change, & other challenges. It’s up to all of us to make a difference—whether it’s supporting conservation projects, spreading awareness, or making sustainable choices in our daily lives. ♻️🐦🌱

Let’s celebrate our natural heritage & commit to protecting the incredible biodiversity that makes Australia such a special place. Every action counts, & together we can help ensure these species thrive for generations to come. 🐸🦜

♻️🍁🥗

May 3-9 is International Composting Awareness Week - the perfect time to shine a light on the simple act of composting & its massive impact on our environment. Whether you’ve got a backyard compost bin, a worm farm, or just a small kitchen caddy, every bit counts towards reducing landfill & returning valuable nutrients to the soil. By composting food scraps & garden waste, we’re helping to build healthier soils, cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, & keep our communities thriving. 🪱🍂🌿🌱

This week, why not have a crack at starting your own compost pile, or chat with your mates about the benefits of composting? It’s a great way to connect with nature & make a real difference – one banana peel at a time! Let’s work together to keep Australia beautiful, sustainable, & green for generations to come. 🍌🍎🥔🥕

Loving your Laundry 🧺💙

Do you often wonder how to "green" your laundry? Well here are our top tips to make a start! 🌏💚

🧴 Use natural washing solutions instead of the nasty chemical powders & liquids available. This will prevent toxins leaching in to our waterways & eco-systems, be gentler on your clothes & assist with any family members that may have skin allergies. You could even make your own - do an internet search to find plenty of easy alternatives.

📏 Only use the recommended amount of washing solution. This will be gentler on your clothing & ensure the product lasts as it should.

👚 Wear clothes more than once - obviously this does not apply to everything. Outer layers in particular, unless stained, do not need to be washed after every wear.

⚡ Upgrade old appliances to new, energy efficient versions.

🌊 Make sure you do full loads of washing in cold water & reduce the length & strength of cycle. Not only will this save water, but energy, electricity & your clothes.

💧 Drip / hang dry your laundry. This will save on energy, extend the life of your clothes & save on ironing. If you do choose to use your dryer occasionally, avoid the numerous dryer sheets available on the market. These can be full of toxic chemicals.

🔥 Avoid ironing. As above, decrease your spin cycle & hang clothes immediately. The water & gravity will serve to pull most wrinkles out. Not only will this save energy, but will save your clothing, as the heat & steam can promote deterioration of fabric.

📎 Switch your plastic pegs for wooden or stainless steel. Much safer for the environment & will last a lifetime.

☠ Avoid dry cleaning. The chemicals used to dry clean fabrics can be dangerous to health.

🌊 YOUR BED SHEETS ARE POLLUTING OUR OCEAN

We know - that’s a big call. But stick with us.

Did you know that polyester, nylon, and other synthetic sheets shed thousands of microplastic fibers every single wash? Those microscopic plastics flow through our drains, through treatment plants (which can’t filter them), and straight into the Indian & Southern Oceans.

Living on this stunning South West coastline, we see the ocean every day. And knowing our daily choices are filling it with plastic? That doesn’t sit right.

THE SIMPLE FIX:
Switch to natural fibers:
🌿 Organic cotton
🌿 Linen (brilliant for our climate!)
🌿 Bamboo
🌿 H**p

Yes, they cost more upfront. But they last longer, feel better, breathe better in our coastal humidity, AND don’t shed plastic into the water our grandkids will swim in.

We walk Augusta beaches every morning with our dogs Bonnie and Clyde. We want to see shells and seaweed - not microplastics.

Small changes, massive impact.

What are your sheets made from? Seriously, go check the label - you might be surprised!

Saying “I do” Sustainably 🌿💍

Weddings are a celebration of love, commitment, & shared values. For many couples today, those values extend beyond the day itself to include care for the planet & the community around them. A sustainable wedding isn’t about giving things up or compromising on style—it’s about making intentional choices that feel meaningful, personal, & responsible.

Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

📧Use digital invitations to reduce paper waste.
👗Purchase a second hand wedding dress, groom’s suit & wedding party attire.
🪴Use dried flowers, potted plants or reusable décor that can be repurposed in your home, gifted to guests or reused for future events.
🥧Source seasonal, locally produced food & use compostable or reusable serve ware.
🍰Try making your own wedding cake.
🎊And one of our favorites - with the undeniable scent & colour of the Australian bush, make your own sustainable, heart-shaped, gum leaf confetti.

Do Something Green Today 💚

Every time we purchase a product or service – gifts, food, fashion, property, appliances, energy – we have the option to shop sustainably. Decide on an area that's important to you & start making a difference through your choices. 💙💚🌏

Here are our top 10 tips to get you started.

💡Save energy at home. Much of our electricity & heat are powered by coal, oil & gas.
🌬️Change your home's source of energy. If possible switch to renewable sources.
🚃Walk, bike or take public transport.
🚘Switch to an electric vehicle.
✈️Consider your travel. Air travel produces significant greenhouse gas emissions.
♻️Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle.
🥕Eat more vegies. Even think about growing your own.
🚮Throw away less food.
🪴Plant native species in your garden.
📣And our favorite ... speak up! Get others to join in taking action.
