Gutter cleaning is not one of those enjoyable tasks and it can be intimidating for those who are not fond of getting up on a ladder. Depending on your home some gutters may be difficult to access and in some cases routine maintenance in addition to cleaning may be required.

Here are a few reasons to consider having your gutters cleared on a regular basis

Water Staining – If leaves, dirt, and grime clog your gutters the water will have nowhere to drain and eventually start to leak over the edge of the gutter. Instead of the water being drained through the down spouts it will run down the side of the structure leaving a trail of dirty looking water marks.

Rotting Wood – When rainwater is unable to flow through the gutters it might accumulate on wooden parts of the home. Everyone knows that the sight of rotten wood does not help when it comes to the aesthetics or curb appeal of a home. However, substantial rot damage may cause structural damage, which could be extremely expensive and difficult to repair.

Sagging Gutters – Water will most likely accumulate in clogged gutters making them extremely heavy, especially in the winter months when the water freezes. The weight of these clogged gutters combined with the rotting of the wood will put a lot of unexpected pressure on the fasteners. Over time these gutters will begin to sag and may even collapse and fall of the home.

Pests – Moist places are a haven for several types of pests, including but not limited to mosquitoes, ants and termites. These insects will quickly find their way into the home, especially if the clogged gutters have caused structural damage within the building.

Mold – If water does not have enough time to evaporate mold and mildew begin to grow. When mold begins to accumulate, it can spread and be difficult to remove. By simply maintaining your gutters you can reduce the chance of mold getting into your home.
